Please forward this letter to the Rams.ey Planning Commission as a matter
of record for the upcoming. public hearing on October 4, 2007.

This proposal has been reviewed by the Parks and Recreation Committee of the Anoka County
Board of Commissioners. The item was discussed as part of their regular meeting held on
Tuesday October 4, 2007. The review was made in the context of Mississippi West Regional
Park being located directly adjacent to the proposed development by.the Diamonds Sports
Bar.

On October 2, 2007, the AnokaCounty Parks and Recreation Committee reviewed the
Diamond's proposal. The Committee determined that the proposed development would be
inconsistent with the existing and planned uses of the regional park, and therefore requests
that the Ramsey Planning Commission d~ny the proposal.

The reasons cited for the Committee's decision includes the following:
. the park is a natural area that is a componeflt of the metropolitan regional' park
system which emphasizes passive use recreation ,
the park is 'located within the federally designated corridor of the Mississippi National
and River Recreation Area - a unit of the National Park System
the park is located along a section of a State designated Wild and Scenic River
future uses of the park will include picnic areas, walking and biking trails, river access
and fishing, children' play areas, and nature observation/study areas .
maximizing the public benefit of the park - and the park master plan that has been
supported by the Ramsey City Council ~ is dependent upon surrounding lend uses that
are compatible in nature with the designated uses of the park

OPEN SpACES IN NEARBY PLACES

'::::':-;:::-';;:T1::'~~.......-:;:;""'''''''

=~/'.----;,",:.::'--'

Phone: 763.757.3920

www.anokacountyparks.com

Fax: 763.755.0230 15
