The City of Ramsey Safe Routes to School grant application is proposing:.
1. To construct 1470 feet of ten foot wide bituminous trail along the northeast side of CSAH
5 from Sunwood Drive to the Lord of Life Church driveway. This is a critical link between
Ramsey Elementary and its emergency evacuation site.
2. To partner with Anoka County and construct intersection improvements at CSAH 5 and
Alpine Drive. The City will complete trail segment reconstruction for better alignment with
the roadway and create a location for an -east-west pedestrian crossing. The County will
install the crosswalk improvements with striping, signage, and advanced pavement
markings making this area more visible to traffic.
3. To construct 1500 feet of ten foot wide bituminous trail along the south side of Alpine
Drive from CSAH 5 to the west to tie into the existing trail system.
4. To construct 25 feet of ten foot wide bituminous trail as a connection from the existing
pedestrian crossing terminus on the south side of Alpine Drive, east of CSAH 5, to the
existing trail.
5. To install 2450 feet of pavement striping, and associated pavement markings, along
142"d Street to delineate the pedestrian zone from the travel lane for this on-street trail
section that currently connections two community parks.
6. To investigate acquisition of a trail easement for construction of 350 feet of ten foot wide
bituminous trail connecting two established neighborhoods, between 149th Lane and
150th Lane, which terminate in cul-de-sacs. This will provide a convenient route for school
children to reach the 150th Lane crosswalk in front of Ramsey Elementary, and create a
valuable neighborhood link for pass through pedestrian traffic.
7. To investigate options to construct five-foot wide concrete sidewalks in neighborhoods
east of Ramsey Elementary; including 152"d Lane, Helium Street, Germanium Street, and
150th Lane. These sidewalks would create safer, more convenient off-street pedestrian
ways for children to reach the crosswalk at 150th Lane in front of Ramsey Elementary.
8. To construct 1550 feet of ten foot bituminous trail along the eastside of Sunfish Lake Blvd
from Sunwood Drive to 143`d Lane.
Additional non-infrastructure items that would be funded through this grant include:
1. Development of a school route plan map for distribution to families at Ramsey elementary
and linked to the School District and City websites.
2. Continuation, and possible expansion, of safety patrol training and safety camp programs
by the Ramsey police department.
3. General safety items; such a vests for crossing guards, kid alert visual warning system,
and bike helmets.
_1 g2_
