She stated that the new goals for 2011 to 2020 <br />would be 1,143 households to meet the 60%AMI number. <br />Councilmember Look asked how many total homes there were in the City. <br />Associate Planner Geisler. stated that there are 8,000 homes. <br />Mayor Gamec stated that the City has never met the goals set by the Met Council. <br />Housing Consultant Bennett stated that virtually no cities have met the goals. <br />Mayor Gamec stated that it is a goal, not a requirement. He stated that he thinks the Met Council <br />sets it high to encourage cities to get as close as possible to the goal. <br />Housing Consultant Bennett stated that, within the comprehensive plan, the City needs to <br />acknowledge that it will try to achieve the goals. She stated that there should be future land use <br />plans that could accommodate the medium to high density housing to meet the 60% AMI. She <br />stated that the Met Council realizes that these goals will also be market based. <br />Mayor. Gamec stated that he does not think the City needs to be scared off by the numbers <br />because he feels the City is already doing a good job and reiterated that the City has- not met <br />these goals in the past. <br />Councilmember Jeffrey questioned whether .the 8,000 homes that Associate Planner Geisler <br />mentioned were for occupied homes. <br />Associate Planner Geisler stated that the 8,000 number was parcels of land and includes both <br />commercial and residential. She stated that the accurate number for residential households is <br />6,000, which does not include apartments but does include almost completed homes. <br />Councilmember Look stated that to meet the 1,143 number would be 20% more than the current <br />number. He asked if meeting this number would be tied to any funding mechanism from the Met <br />Council. <br />Housing Consultant Bennett stated that it will be tied to funding the City could receive for <br />housing from the Met Council. <br />Mayor Gamec stated that although the City does not meet the AMI goals, he feels the City does a <br />good job.
