~.~CASE #~

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT OFFICE REMODELING
By: Ryan R. Schroeder

Background:

On August 13, 1996, Council authorized an expenditure from the Police Department office
equipment budget to provide for furnishings for the new police facility. At that time, we noted that
we would be coming back to you with proposals for updating the offices for other departments
within the 1996 budget. For your information, the 1996 office equipment budgets were approved
as follows:

Administration $13,636
Finance $16,364
Planning $22,727
General Government $ 1,500
Police $22,727

We have received a quote to remodel the existing police office space from Dennis Sharp in the
amount of $11,400. This remodeling would consist of removal of all of the interior walls, the
bathroom and the shower, with installation of a dropped ceiling, extension of the heat ducts and
rewire to the extent necessary. It also includes new carpeting, patch of the walls as necessary and
relocating the sprinkler heads. This work would allow for modular furnishings to be purchased
for five positions (City Engineer, Zoning Administrator, Community Development Coordinator,
and two additional offices). An additional result would be a small meeting space from the existing
engineering office and either conference or storage space within at least half of the existing
community development area. The modular office furnishings and improvements to the lower
level have not yet been quoted. It is expected that this work and these furnishings will occur
within the budget.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend Council adopt Resolution//96-10-__ authorizing a change order within the
contract with Sharp Associates to complete remodeling of the existing police office space.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Finance Officer

FC: 10/22/96

/jmt
