REPORT ON T.H. #47 MNDOT IMPROVEMENTS
By: Steven J. Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

Attached to this case is a memo from Larry Phillips, which outlines several projects which are
anticipated on T.H. #47. These projects include the replacement of the highway bridge over Tmtt
Brook, the construction of additional turn and by-pass lanes at seven intersections along T.H. 4/47,
and a bituminous resurfacing project. The turn lane project was scheduled for letting in 1998, but
right-of-way acquisition will fa'st make that possible in 1999. This project anticipates placing mm
and by-pass lanes at 160th Lane, 164th Avenue, 167th Avenue, 177th Avenue, County Road #63,
179th Avenue and 180th Avenue.

The bridge over Trott Brook is scheduled for replacement in 1998. Staff has indicated to the State
that the horizontal alignment of the new bridge should be shifted as much as possible to smooth the
difficult "S" alignment. This project is now proposed to be pushed back one year to 1999.

Finally, a mill and overlay project was scheduled for 2001. This project is proposed to be
accelerated to 1999. The advantage to the public will be that construction impacts and detours will
be compressed into one construction season. It may also be possible to aim for some cooperative
agreement projects identified in the corridor study with MnDOT for this year.

Committee Action:

None required.

Reviewed by:

City Engineer

R&B: 3/12/96

/kas
