Mr. Jankowski: If it follows the pattern, you are at least five years away.

Resident: Asked about counting cars on County Road//5.

Mr. Eyler: We have been working with the State to do a section up to C.R. #5. We are getting
information to justify signals at 5 and 147th. There is a certain amount of dollars allocated for the
project. We hope MnDOT will make a decision in January about funding. Projects compete
against one another. That project could start as early as July 1997.

Mr. Jankowski: One of the things that have come out of this corridor study is support for that
segment of road by developers and residents. People are interested in seeing that improvement.

Councilmember Zimmerman: Highway #47 is a State highway. You could have a Council that
doesn't care, but we are concerned. We hope to get the stretch from 143rd to C.R. #5 done for
1.3 million dollars. We cannot do it ail at once because it's too expensive. We are committed to
getting a safer highway.

Mr. Jankowski: We do take into consideration the accident history.

Mr. Eyler: Initially, MnDOT was reluctant, but now they have turn lanes, overlay and are re-doing
bridges for the north end by 1999.

Resident: What if they signalize 149th?

Mr. Jankowski: The curb would not come back any further - a 12-foot turn lane and by-pass lane.
About the signal - it's tough to determine what the gaps will be.

Councilmember Zimmerman: What is the cost of temporary signals?

Mr. Eyler: About $60,000.

Discussion ensued relating to the inefficiency of the lights at #116 and 4/47.

Councilmember Zimmerman: This is still a study but the City Council will want to adopt a plan.

Mr. Jankowski: This is to use when a developer comes in to see if he's in compliance. It's a
vision-lng process.

Councilmember Zimmerman: We are looking at the program but, continue your lives as they are.
Mr. Jankowski: Do not go looking for apartments and putting your houses up for sale.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,

/Jd Thieling_ v x. /~
t-~Recording Secretary ~

Neighborhood

gt&% Janko~jgki
City Engineer

Meeting/149/47/August 1, 1996
