MAYOR'S TOWN HALL MEETING
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA
The fist monthly Mayor's To Hall meeting was held beginning at 7:00 p.m., on
Thursday, February 19, 2009, in the Alexander Ramsey Room at the Ramsey Municipal
Center, 7550 Sunwood Drive NW, Ramsey, Minnesota.
Present: Mayor Bob Ramsey
City Clerk Jo Thieling
Mayor Ramsey introduced himself to the residents present and explained that the reason
for the Town Hall meeting was to offer a venue for the citizens to talk with the Mayor
about issues /concerns /ideas in a more informal setting — no television cameras, no
microphone. He also introduced City Clerk Jo Thieling.
There were eight attendees — those who signed in include:
Dale Voltin, 190 Grove Road, East Bethel, MN 55092 — part owner of property in
Ramsey, 651- 464 -9823
Jim & Jean Gookin, 6851 — 160 lane NW, Ramsey, MN 55303
Duane Greskowiak, 7441 —151 Lane NW, Ramsey, MN 55303
Randy Backous, 14148 Argon Street NW, Ramsey, MN 55303
Mr. Voltin stated he has a financial interest in the property that the former Diamond's Bar
& Grill is located on and he had heard that Menards was interested in building on that site
at one point and he wondered whatever happened to that plan.
City Clerk Thieling offered to find information for Mr. Voltin and report back to him.
Mr. Voltin stated to Mayor Ramsey that if the City was interested in purchasing that
property at all, he thought it could be bought for less than $2 million.
Mr. Gookin expressed his opinion that the Ramsey Star Bus Service was not a good use
of the City's money. He also mentioned the Anoka County Fairgrounds and thought it
may be a good idea to talk with the Fair Board about relocating to the City of Ramsey.
City Clerk Thieling thought that this idea had come up in discussion at a meeting some
time ago and offered to research that and get back to Mr. Gookin with her findings.
An inquiry was made re the Armstrong overpass and Mayor Ramsey updated those
present on that proposed project.
An inquiry was also made about the plans to extend City sewer and water. Mayor
Ramsey outlined the latest sewer and water projects and what made the most sense with
•
