Councilmember Elvig introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br />RESOLUTION #12 -10 -155 <br />RESOLUTION TO COMMIT TO APPLICATION FOR GRANT OPPORTUNITY FOR <br />SHARED FIRE SERVICES <br />WHEREAS, the Shared Fire Service Study Group has held scheduled meetings on a <br />regular basis since October 2011; and <br />WHEREAS, the following members from the City of Ramsey participated in the Shared <br />Fire Service Study Group: Councilmember Sarah Strommen, Fire Chief Dean Kapler, City <br />Administrator Kurt Ulrich and Fire Fighter Shane Swedeen; and <br />WHEREAS, the Shared Fire Service Study Group remains committed to continuing <br />efforts to research the possibility of some form of shared services; and <br />WHEREAS, a grant opportunity through the State Fire Marshal's office in the amount <br />of $25,000 - $40,000 has become available for application; and <br />WHEREAS, successful parties receiving the grant will be required to match <br />approximately 10% of the grant proceeds; and <br />WHEREAS, using a population weighting formula, with the $25,000 minimum and <br />$40,000 maximum benefit examples, the City of Ramsey, if successful, would be required to pay <br />$1,350 to $2,160. Other cities share as follows: Oak Grove $450/$720, St. Francis $400/$640, <br />Nowthen $250/$400, and Bethel $25/$40. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA; as follows: <br />1) That the City of Ramsey hereby supports the continued effort of looking toward some <br />form of a Shared Fire Service with the other interested communities and agrees to enter <br />into an application with the State Fire Marshal's Office grant opportunity. <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Backous, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor: <br />Mayor Ramsey <br />Councilmember Elvig <br />Councilmember Backous <br />Councilmember McGlone <br />Councilmember Strommen <br />Councilmember Tossey <br />Councilmember Wise <br />Resolution #12 -10 -155 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
