Counci.!~:t~'a~be,' Cox introduced the following resolution and moved for its <br />ad opl: i~;~: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #86-I 03 <br /> <br /> R~S(~LUTION ENDORSING THE EFFORTS OF T~E NORTIt METRO TRAFFIC TASK <br />FORCE SUPPORTING CONCLUSIONS OF THE TAMK FORCE REGARDING ADDITIONAL <br />RYVEi~ CROSSING CAPACITY NEEDS IN THE NORTH METRO AREA, ~ REQUESTING <br /> ~ COMMITMENT OF RESOURCES FROM THE STATE OF MINNESOTA AI~D TME <br /> METROPOLITAN COUNCIL TO IMPLEMENT RESPONSES TO IDENTIFIED RIVER <br /> CROSSING NEEDS IN THE NORTH METRO AREA <br /> <br /> W}I.I'iR~iAS~ the long standing need for additional river bridges is a critical <br />J.ssue ~'cw ~}~ Coup. ties and Cities adjacent to the Mississippi River in the <br />North I,~ :.','~ ~; and <br /> <br /> WHE_R~C~g~ the North Metro Traffic Task Force composed of elected and <br />~ppoin~ed <.lficJals from the Metropolitan Council, Anoka and Hennepin Counties, <br />and t-he ~itJe~ of Andover, Anoka, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Champlin, <br />Coon R~pi.d.~, ~.~ayton~ Fr~dley and Ramsey was established to serve as as forum to <br />study ~md ~i~.~;u~,~,s relevant issues associated with river bridges in the North <br />Metro ~e~ k~ establish s basis for coordination of transportation planning <br />activitie~ ~m~n4~ affected jurisdictions, and to facilitate achievement of <br />consen~: ~n;~r~g member jurisdictions on appropriate alternatives to meet <br />identi~J~.q b~idge needs; and <br /> <br /> WHP~R~':J.f~:~ -~he North Metro Traffic Task Force has appointed a Technical <br />SubcommJ.~:!t~' ~:o evaluate the need for additional river bridge crossings to <br />serve tb,,~ r',,,c~ ~:h M¢~tro area; and. <br /> <br /> W~/,~Ri~:7,?,~ i:he North Metro Traffic Task Force has accepted and endorsed the <br />recommend.-~tJo,~s of their Technical Subcommittee regarding identified short term <br />improveme'~'i~ o existing facilities and long term needs for additional river <br />crossi~% ,'.~p~2,ity and potential alternatives to satisfy long and short term <br />bridge ~':,.'~,,ssJ,q; needs; and, <br /> <br /> Wtl}~i)!~.iA~;~, Lite North Metro Traffic Task Force has concluded that local <br />communJ~eg~ Sl:~.~ze of Minnesota and Metropolitan Council cooperation, <br />assist~..~,~'e ~qd funding is essential to specifically define short term <br />deficif'~c.i~'~q 7nd construct appropriate long term bridge crossings to serve the <br />Jmporta,.ni::~ un~:~et: needs of the North Metro area and that this support should <br />]egiti_ma~.~,ly ~'eceive priority relative to other transportation studies and <br />constrt,~:~i.~.n ~f other transporation system improvements in the Metropolitan <br />are~ ~ <br /> <br />NOW ~fH.
