Councilmer, i~ .~o~ .introduced the following resolution and moved for its <br />adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION $87-?1 <br /> <br /> WH~F[-~Ei~S, the continuation of the program for peacetime registration <br />for the &~}.ect Jw~ f~rvice System contributes to National readiness by reducing <br />as much g-: t~¥<~ ~,,.~>ntb.% the time required for a full defense mobilization; and <br /> <br /> W.~{~kt,;A~, over one million United States citizens have sacrificed <br />their lJ.ve~ ~'o protect the rights and freedoms of all Americans and <br />registrat:~on f~>r Selective Service is sn integral part of current preparedness <br />to prese~e ~L~,%~ rights and freedoms in the future; and <br /> <br /> 'W~{~:}~Ef¢~ over 97 percent of potential registrants have registered <br />with the i~]!.~(l ire ~rvice Syste~ since the resumption of registration and by <br />so regi.qt~.~[.~g~ i~ave e~qanced United States National defense preparedness; and <br /> <br /> WH~Y:~_tA,!4 the Selective g~rvice System bas been tasked with assisting <br />in the pr(,ce:~s o~' improvin~ our readiness posture by calling upon 18 year old <br />male citizen~ to identJ.fy themselves by simply registering their name, address, <br />date of bJrt.),~ aud social security number with the System by spending five <br />minutes at ~,~ P,~st C~fice within 30 days of their 18th birthday; and <br /> <br /> %99~',[<Eg~4 many educational and job training benefits are denied by law <br />to tho~> w'b~ f;~ili to r~ister with the Selective Service System; and <br /> <br />Wi~;(~FJS;;,~ there is a criminal penalty for failure to register. <br /> <br />N~ THEREFO}~q;- B}': IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA <br />CflJNTY, S~I'A9~', <I~' MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br /> i) 't'h.-ci~ t}~e City of Ramsey does hereby support continuation of <br />registratioi~,~ w i.~, Selective Service and does hereby declare April 1987 as <br /> <br />MINNESCTA R~GI~ION M~ARENESS MONTH <br /> <br />The motion ~ (u %'t~e adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by <br />Councilme~(w~ ~q~ teberg and the following voted in favor 'thereof: <br /> <br />and the fo~iJo~,~::~bl vot{~d against the same: <br /> <br />Non~? <br /> <br />and the fo)]c~.,~.~r,!,, abstained: <br /> <br />and the ii<>3 :t,~:[t ~2 were ,.~sent: <br /> <br />~on~? <br /> <br /> <br />
