Councilmemb¢,r l)eLuca introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #89-04-87 <br /> <br />RESOLUrrlON Pi{OCLAIMING APRIL 28, 1989 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND THE MONTH OF <br />MAY 1989 ,&¢; "ARBOR MONTH" <br /> <br /> WHt-]FIt!-]A3, Minnesota's forest treasures were a significant attraction to early settlers <br />because of ll~.ir ~setulness and the beautiful environment they provided; and <br /> <br /> Wt--II.~REA;:~, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our <br />Jives by purifying air and water, helping conserve soil and energy, creating jobs through a <br />large foresl products industry, serving as recreational settings, providing habitat for wildlife <br />of all kinds, itnd r~laking our cities more liveable; and <br /> <br /> WHEREA,U, human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as <br />disease and insects, theaten our trees, creating the need for concerted action to ensure the future <br />of urban and rural forests in our state, country, and world; and <br /> <br /> W~--tEREA!~, each year on the last Friday in April - "Arbor Day" - the people of <br />Minnesota pay spgcial attention to the wonderful treasure that our trees represent and dedicate <br />themselves fo the continued health of our state's stock of trees. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) ]ha? the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims April 28, 1989 as "Arbor Day". <br /> <br /> 2) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May 1989 as "Arbor <br />Month". <br /> <br /> 3) Tier;4 the Ramsey City Council urges all citizens to become more aware of the <br />importance of trees to their well-being, to participate in tree planting programs that will <br />ensure a gm. er., Minnesota in decades to come, and to plant, nurture, protect, and wisely use <br />Minnesota's 9rt.:at treasure of trees. <br /> <br />The motion for t!m adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Pearson and ~pon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor Reir;~ann <br />Co~moilrm;h'~ber DeLuoa <br />Councilmernber Pearson <br />Councih~-~ember Cich <br />Councilmn~¢fl)er Peterson <br /> <br />and the followin!i w:,ted against the same: <br /> <br />Norie <br /> <br /> <br />
