Councilmcmbcr Peterson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #91-05-125 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION URGING THE ANOKA COUNTY BOARD TO ADOPT LOCAL <br />OPTION SALES TAX <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the final tax bill, which the Legislature passed on May 20, 1991 and <br />Governor Carlson is expected to sign, contains new city aid cuts; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, all local government aids will be eliminated within counties that do not adopt <br />a Local Option Sales Tax increasing sales tax from 6% to 6-1/2%; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota is to create a Local Government Trust Fund which is <br />to receive a 2-cent total and provide total funding for non-school local aids, including LGA, <br />HACA, disparity reduction aid, a portion of the recent income maintenance takeover and several <br />smaller aid programs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, cities are hopeful that the dedicated revenue source and removal of all city <br />aids from the state general fund will provide greater stability and growth for city aids; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in order to protect the state aid revenues to the City of Ramsey, the County <br />of Anoka must ratify a sales tax that has been imposed by the State of Minnesota. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />1) <br /> <br />That the City of Ramsey urges the Anoka County Board to Adopt the Local Option Sales <br />Tax. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />That the City Administrator is directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Anoka <br />County Board of Commissions on or before June 10, 1991. <br /> <br />The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember Beyer <br />and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br />Mayor Gilbertson <br />Councilmember Peterson <br />Councilmember Beyer <br />Councilmember Hardin <br /> <br />and the following voted against same: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />and the following were absent: <br /> <br />Councilmember Cich <br /> <br /> <br />
