I <br />I$ <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I$ <br />I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> i$ <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilmember ~ardin introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> RESOLUTION #93-03-042 <br /> 2 <br />RESOLUT[O1~ PROCLAIMING MAY 1, 1993 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND <br />MONTH 0[ I~IAY 1993 AS "ARBOR MONTH" <br /> <br />commerce bo <br /> wIl <br />lives by puri <br />through a lh <br />habitat for W <br />healthy, su~ <br /> <br />THE <br /> <br />'0R~AS, Minnesota's forest treasures were a significant resource to early settlers and <br />CaUSe of their usefulness and the value-added environment they provided; and <br /> <br />,REAS, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our <br />~,irtg air and water, helping conserve soil and providing local energy, creating jobs <br />'ge~orest products industry, serving as beautiful recreational settings, providing <br />ldlit'e of all kinds, making our cities more liveable and are related to all aspects of a <br />inable diverse ecosystem; and <br /> <br /> Wll~Rlg.'AS, human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as <br />disease and'~se0t.~ s, threaten our trees, creating the need for concerted action to ensure the future of <br />urban and ~/~ forests in our state, country and world by locally planting, nurturing and protecting <br />trees for wi~e~usoin the years ahead; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, each year, approximately the last week in April - "Arbor Day" - the people <br />of Minneso~pa~ special attention to the wo_n,d_erful treasure that our trees represent and dedicate <br />themselves td th~continued health of our state s urban and rural forests; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world and the <br />City of R~y has been recognized for four years as a Tree City, USA. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF ~HE CITY <br />OF RAM~y, iANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows. <br /> <br />1) That:the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims May 1, 1993 as "Arbor Day". <br /> <br />2) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May 1993 as "Arbor Month". <br /> <br />3) That :~e Ramsey City Council urges all citizens to become more aware of the importance of <br /> trees, W their well-being, to participate in tree planting programs that will ensure a green <br /> Minnesota in decades to come and to plant, nurture, protect and wisely plan the use of <br /> Minrl6Sota's great treasure of wood resources from trees. <br /> <br />The motion ~r the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Peterson and ~ote,bemg taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br /> MayO~r Gill~rtson <br /> Counielm~mber Hardin <br /> Couneilmember Peterson <br /> Coun~!member Beyer <br /> CounCilmember Zimmerman <br /> <br />and the follow~ng Voted against the same: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br /> <br />
