I I$ I I I I I I I I$ I I I I I I I i$ I Councilmember ~ardin introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #93-03-042 2 RESOLUT[O1~ PROCLAIMING MAY 1, 1993 AS "ARBOR DAY" AND MONTH 0[ I~IAY 1993 AS "ARBOR MONTH" commerce bo wIl lives by puri through a lh habitat for W healthy, su~ THE '0R~AS, Minnesota's forest treasures were a significant resource to early settlers and CaUSe of their usefulness and the value-added environment they provided; and ,REAS, trees are an increasingly vital resource in Minnesota today, enriching our ~,irtg air and water, helping conserve soil and providing local energy, creating jobs 'ge~orest products industry, serving as beautiful recreational settings, providing ldlit'e of all kinds, making our cities more liveable and are related to all aspects of a inable diverse ecosystem; and Wll~Rlg.'AS, human activities such as construction damage and pollution, as well as disease and'~se0t.~ s, threaten our trees, creating the need for concerted action to ensure the future of urban and ~/~ forests in our state, country and world by locally planting, nurturing and protecting trees for wi~e~usoin the years ahead; and WHEREAS, each year, approximately the last week in April - "Arbor Day" - the people of Minneso~pa~ special attention to the wo_n,d_erful treasure that our trees represent and dedicate themselves td th~continued health of our state s urban and rural forests; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world and the City of R~y has been recognized for four years as a Tree City, USA. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF ~HE CITY OF RAM~y, iANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows. 1) That:the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims May 1, 1993 as "Arbor Day". 2) That the Ramsey City Council hereby proclaims the month of May 1993 as "Arbor Month". 3) That :~e Ramsey City Council urges all citizens to become more aware of the importance of trees, W their well-being, to participate in tree planting programs that will ensure a green Minnesota in decades to come and to plant, nurture, protect and wisely plan the use of Minrl6Sota's great treasure of wood resources from trees.
