PARK AND RECREATION GOMMISSION CITY OF RAMSEY ANOKA GOUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA A regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was held on Thursday, August 1, 1985, at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Ncwthen Blvd. N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota. Mr. Don Lokker Mr. Bill Rustad Mr. John Lichter Ms. Janice Johnson Ms. Marleen Looyen Mr. Ron Hetland Chairman Dennis Donovan City Engineer, Pete Raatikka Street Superintendent, Merle Mevissen The meeting was called to order at 7:12 P.M. A motion was made by Commissioner Hetland and seconded by Commissioner Lokker to approve the Park and Recreation Commission minutes of May 16, and June 20, 1985. Approved unanimously. Item D-2 case #1 The Commission discussed the use of proceeds from the fundraiser event and concurred unanimously that any proceeds should be spent at Central Park for several reasons. First it receives City wide use, second the City committed to its development when the land was accepted from Federal Cartridge. Furthermore private development of neighborhood parks should continue to be encouraged but not at the expense of or in lieu of planned development of City wide parks. The Commission suggests any fundraiser proceeds be used for lighting to increase seasonal utilization of the park. Item D-2 Case #3 Commissioner Looyen reported that a lot of misinformation was spread about use of the tournament proceeds and it was not well attended. It has been decided to rerun the tournament during Ramsey Days to improve attendance. The tournament will be held August 23, 1985 through August 25, 1985. Item D-2 case #2 The cost of lighting the Central Park fields ranges from $75,000 to $105,000. Lighting just one field is not much savings. With either system a cherry picker would probably be needed to replace lights.
