City of Ramsey
Parks and Recreation Commission
October 20, 1977

Present: Paul Bother, Darrell Jensen, John Zobava, and Doris Irvine

Meetin~ was called to order at 7:15 P.S. [lotion by Darrell Jensen
and ap.~roved by Doris Irvine to approve the minutes of 8/18/77.

The ~ro~osa] to develop the Ramsey Elementary School existing and
antic~lated ball diamonds was again discus§ed. It was agreed
u~on unani~,ously that the existing developed ball diamond, now
with the batter facing Northwest, is objectionable to the majori, ty
of g~mes played in the afternoon and evening during summer months.
Chairman Darrell J'ensen suggested that he would try to ~et estimates
incl~din~:

Cost of dirt movin~ to level the proposed two
fields in the SW and NW quadrants.
Cost of special infield material (cinder rock
or special compound)
Estimate of hauling in black dirt to seed/sod
a major portion of the shared ~utfield.(Out-
field areas would overlap slightly with 'three
proposed ball diamonds.)

So~rces of water to irrieate the fields were discussed. John
Zobava su~ested there may be a ready source from existin2 water
sources on the school's west side·

Less importantly, but discussed, were bleachers (2 sections, 16
feet in length for each diagmond) and fencine to form boundaries
for the fi. etds. T~ere was little agreement on:

Whether the fences were necessary.
What type of fences (board, chain link, snow).
It was suggested by Doris Irvine that local adver-
ti. sing (billboard) could ultimately pay for the
fenci.ng. Nobody knew whether advertising on school
property would be proper, especially considering
beverage ads which would conflict with education
~oals.

Lastly, Darre~Jensen proposed that Duane Erlien be contacted a~ain
for ar, application to the P & R Commission and that it should be
submitted a~ai~.

~eetin~ was adjourned at 9:00 P.~i. All in favor.

Submitted by Secretary of P & R Commission,

Paul J. Bogner
