Comm. <br /> <br /> Special Meeting <br />Ramsey City Council and Park & Recreation Commission <br /> City o f Rams ey <br /> County of Anoka <br /> State of Minnesota <br /> <br />A special meeting of the Ramsey C~ty Council and Park and Recreation Commission <br />was held on August 4, 1976,' at 7:30 p.m., at Ramsey City Hall, 14100 St. Francis <br />Boulevard, N.W., Ramsey, MN 55303 <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Mayor Cox <br />Councilwoman Oliphant <br />Councilman Reimann <br />Councilman Gorham <br />Councilman Mickelson <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Park & Recreation Commission <br /> Fred.~Ritchie, Chairman <br /> John Zobova <br /> Robert Cushman <br /> Ken Peterson · <br /> Kathy Schneider, Secretary <br /> Herb Scattaretli <br /> Jerry Manthey <br /> Leonard Vereecken <br /> <br />Pledge of allegiance to the flag wa.s led by Mayor Cox. <br /> <br />Letters'and Communications , <br />Chairman Ritchie of the Parks and Recreation Commission read a letter from <br />Anoka County on their proposed Bike Way system. The letter requested input <br />from the municipalities on their proposed bike paths and a form was enclosed <br />for filling out and sending back to the County. <br /> <br />The areas for bike paths were discussed by the Council and the Park & Recreation <br />Commission. <br /> <br />It was recommended by the Parks and Recreation Commission to the Council that <br />all County roads plus 167th St6eet be upgraded for bike paths. Also 153rd Street <br />from Highway 5 to the Rum River area. The priority for upgrading would be County <br />Road 56. <br /> <br />Mayor Cox read a letter from the State Department of Natural Resources, (DNR) <br />informing the City that a Citizen's Council was being formed to hold meetings <br />on the status of the Rum River and the preservation of it as a natural resource. <br />The Mayor should select three persons to submit to the DNR for consideration to <br />serve on the Citizen's Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Cox selected the following persons to be forwarded to the DNR. <br /> Gary Reimann, 18008 WACO Street N.W.', .phone 753-1566 <br /> Ronald Nelson, 4960 177TH Avenue N.W. 753-1474 <br /> Kathy Schneider, 15340 XENON Street, N.W. 421-5233 <br /> <br />A letter from the State Department of Highways was read by Tim Paquebte~ <br />The letter informed the Council and the Parks & Recreation Commission that <br />Federal matching funds are available for the construction of bike paths. <br />Mr. Paquette is to look into the possibility of aid in the form of matching <br />funds. <br /> <br />Comprehensive Plan. <br />Fred Ritchie requested Tim Paquette to brief the meeting on his input <br />pertaining to the City's proposed Comprehensive Plan design. <br /> <br />Tim Paquette stated that one very important factor that he would.like to see <br />the Commission do was to state the objective of the Comprehensive Plan <br />and that the objective s~ould be put together by the Parks & Recreation <br />Commission. r <br /> <br />The objective were discussed as set up in the COon RaPids Park Comprehensive <br />Plan. It was the concensus of the people present that the objectives in the <br />Coon Rapids plan will be a guideline to develop the objectives of the Ramsey <br />Park Comprehensive Plan. ~, <br /> <br />The Parks & Recreation Commission will meet on Wednesday the 11th of August <br />for a work session on the Comprehensive Plan development. <br /> <br />Mayor Cox stated that it owuld be a good idea to involve the Planning & Zoning <br />Commission in a work session with the Parks & Recreation Commission. <br /> <br /> <br />
