PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION April 17, 1980 Members Present: Terry McLean, John Lichter, Dennis Donovan, Dick The meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M. The minutes of the March 27, 1980 meeting were approved following a motion by McLean and seconded by Swanson. Mr. Green, 421-0320 and Mrs. Bear 427-2558 from the Forest Hideaway neighborhood want City assistance to grade their park and they requested us to move equipment which is not used at Whispering Pines Park #1. They also would like material for a backstop if it is available. Chairman Donovan indicated he would contact Merle Mevissen to set up a meeting with neighborhood residents. At the recent Council meeting the following actions were taken that have an impact on the Commission: 1) CED was selected to prepare the bond issue brochure and related study. 2) The Council authorized the minor improvements requested on Traprock Park. The Commission reviewed the draft the Comprehensive and Open Space Plan. Comments were compiled by the Secretary for the consultant. Chairman Donovan reviewed conversations he had with representatives of Anoka County and the cities of Andover and Anoka regarding the park pro- posed on the southeast corner of Ramsey. The County stated that they were not interested in maintaining a hockey arena. Anoka (the City) feels the major use of the park should be passive. No conclusions re- garding park use were reached. The Commission also established a list of spring needs for the Park and Recreation Department. They are as follows by priority: -- Seed Ramsey School and Titterud Park ball fields -- Place Sattelite toilets at the school, Traprock, Titterud and Brookview Parks -- Move equipment from Whispering Pines to Forest Hideaway Park and perform grading.
