Park and Recreation Commission Meeting <br /> <br />January 18, 1979 <br />Regular Meeting <br /> <br />Present: <br /> <br />Dennis Donovan <br />Sam Wal z <br />Kevin Wolter <br />John Lichter <br />Doris Irvine <br />Mike Haller <br /> <br />Meeti~called to order at 7:05 p.m. Minutes of December 21, 1978 meeting were <br />approved unanimously. Motion by Lichter, second by Haller. <br /> <br />Commission members discussed the questionaire which will be distributed to <br />residents near Titterud Park.by the Jaycees. Dick Swanson of the Jaycees <br />appeared to discuss the details of distribution. The Jaycees will meet <br />February 7, 1979 and try to get the survey information compiled by February <br />10 and to the students who are working on the park plan. Three U of M <br />Recreation students are working on a master development plan for Titterud <br />Park as a course project. The students appeared and discussed the project <br />in detail with Mr. Swanson and the commission members. Students working on <br />the project are Tom Geskermann, Kathy Gustafson and Tim Knaeble. Their instruc- <br />tor is Bob Callecod. <br /> <br />During the course of the Ti'tterud Park discussions, it was decided that the <br />Saddle Club should be contacted and requested to appear at the February meeting <br />and discuss arena needs for 1979. <br /> <br />A recreation grant meeting was scheduled for January 23, 1979. Commission <br />members were invited to attend. <br /> <br />Dick Swanson indicated his interest to establish cross country ski trails and <br />hiking trails. He suggested tying trails into Rum River Central Park and the <br />proposed trails within that park. It was suggested that a representative of <br />North Country Ski Club attend our February meeting to discuss this point further. <br /> <br />Bruce Burton and Chuck Lund appeared and presented the sketch plan for Tierra <br />Estates. The parcel consists of 199.3 acres of which 31.6 acres was proposed <br />as park land. The park land borders Trott Brook and the sketch plan appears <br />to be consistent with the comprehensive plan. It was moved by Walz, second by <br />Lichter and passed unanimously to recommend acceptance of the park property as <br />indicated on the sketch plan dated January 18, 1979. Mr. Lund questioned the <br />commission with regards to firearms use on park property. The commission <br />requests the City Administrator to investigate this matter and inform the Chair- <br />man of his findings. <br /> <br />The commission approved unanimously a motion to purchase 200 trees from the <br />Anoka Soil and Water Conservation district. Mike Haller purchased these trees <br />for $20.00 bef6re the January 1st deadline. Motion by Irvine, Second by Wolter <br />to reimburse Haller. <br /> <br /> <br />
