City of Ramsey Parks & Recreation Commission <br /> Minutes of 1/19/78 <br /> <br />Attended by: <br /> <br />Darrell Jensen, Doris Irvine, Paul Bogner, John Zobava. <br />Nonmembers attending: Dennis Donavon, John Lichter, <br />Mayor Arnie Cox and Guest Speaker John Schultz from <br />the Univ. of Minnesota. <br /> <br />M~etim~ was called to order at 7:15 P.M. by Chairman Darrell Jensen. <br />He introduced our ~uest speaker from the Univ. of MN., Division of <br />Recrea't~.on and Leioure Studies (203 Cooke Hall, 1900 Univ. Ave. S.E. <br />Mpls..55~55, 373-4£69). <br /> <br />Dr. Schultz sue~ested to P & R various ways to seek assistance in <br />the eva]_~ation and development of land set aside for P & R. One <br />su~eestion was to utilize the assistance offered by students at <br />the Un'iv. of MN. Especially, they could draw plans for a site and <br />submit and develop this to scale. Additional advice was to seek <br />assistance from the Anoka County Parks Director, Dave Torquelson. <br />The application for student help should be submitted to Dr. Schultz's <br />off, ce not later than 2/15/78. <br /> <br />To ~et Grant monies, requirements are to have a Comprehensive Park <br />Plan, City Park Plan and Site Park Plan. The city should have <br />ava[lab].e matchin~ funds to complement the grant. <br /> <br />Discussed aeain were the proposals to develop the Ramsey Elementary <br />School ball fields. Blueprints were submitted by two play2round <br />equipment companies. The blueprints are to be reviewed by Phil <br />Nereson and then levelin~ can be decided. It must be determined <br />also whether the school district will help with the cost of the <br />diamomds and,secondly, who ultimately will control the use of the <br />diamonds ~.n the lon~ term, the school or city. <br /> <br />An official letter of resignation was submitted by Kathy Schneider <br />and entered in the minutes. <br /> <br />Kathy Schneider made a motion to the City Council to appoint Dennis <br />Donavon amd John Lichter as members of ~he P & R Commission to fill <br />existing, vacancies. Applicants'letters accompany this copy of' the <br />m~nutes. The motion was seconded by Paul Bogner, all in favor. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Doris Irvine to approve the minutes of 1]/17/77. <br />Seconded by Kathy Schneider, 3 in favor, 2 abstained. Doris further <br />moved that -the rainutes of 12/1~/?? be approved. Seconded by John <br />Zobava, all in favor. <br /> <br />Mayor Arnie Cox ~ave the P & R Commission a pep talk on the ~espon- <br />sibi]~t~es on the shoulders of the P & R and how the decision and <br />recoromendations they make now will affect the City of Ramsey for <br />many years. The Mayor a2ain volunteered his help in any way that he <br />co~]_d. <br /> <br />Doris Irv~.ne su2~ested to Mayor Cox that it would be helpful 1:o know <br />the amount of funds available to P & R and the current funds ]..eft. <br />~ayor Cox said this information can be made available. <br /> <br /> <br />
