SPECIAL CITY OF RAMSEY COUNCIL MEETING <br /> February 13, 1975 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 12:20 by the Mayor, Mr. Cox. <br />Present were Mr. Gorham, Mr. Reimann, Mr. Mickelson and Mrs. Oli- <br />phant. Mr. Thurston, the assessor~ was also present. <br /> <br />Mr. Thurston explained assessing procedure. He said if problems <br />arise, they can often be taken care of by coming in to the office <br />beforehand. He said the guide for assessing a house comes from <br />the County and the State. <br /> <br />Commercial property is assessed at 43% of market value. An op- <br />erating farm homestead is assessed at 20% on the first $12,000 <br />and 33 1/2% over $12,000 of market value. Homesteaded residen- <br />tial property is valued at 25% on the first #12,O00 and 40% on the <br />balance over $12,000. Residential that is not . homesteaded is <br />valued at 40% of market value. Farms gain addition benefit in <br />the mill rate for the school district. <br /> <br />In Ramsey District ll taxes payable on commercial property in 1974 <br />was $35.18 per $1,000 of market value. District #728 was $40.45. <br />Payable in 1974 a $40,000 commercial building was taxe at $1,407.20. <br />A $40,000 homestead was taxed at $836.00; non-homestead was $1,309. <br /> <br />There is a differential in A, B, or C homes. Rate on a $25.22 <br />"B" home is $25.22 per square foot; on a low "C" farm home $21.46 <br />per. square foot. Rates are redone every two years. <br /> <br />We are raising assessment 19% to 20%. <br />having the books in to the County. <br /> <br />March 15th is deadline for <br /> <br />Discussion on the fact that houses today are selling for less than <br />they were last year or when they were built. <br /> <br />We will ask for a meeting with Mr. Clawson, Mr. Steffens, Mr. Ander- <br />son and Mr. Weaver to discuss this tax situation, as soon as possible. <br /> <br />Meeting closed at 1:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />C 1 erk <br /> <br /> <br />
