SPECIAL MEETING RAMSEY CITY COUNCIL CITY OF RAMSEY COUNTY OF ANOKA STATE OF MINNESOTA Members Present: Mayor Cox Councilman Gamec Councilman Muller Councilman Reimann Councilman Mickelson Members Absent: None Also Present: Bill Goodrich, City Attorney Bernie Steffan Phil Nereson, City Administrator Clayton Berg, Building Official A special meeting of the Ramsey City Council was held Tuesday, March 28, 1978, at 5:00 P.M. at City Attorney Bill Goodrich's office, 316 East Main Street, Anoka, Minnesota 55303. The meeting was an announced closed meeting, being announced at the March 27, 1978 regular City Council meeting. The meeting was termed closed for attorney-client relations regarding the Nelson vs. Cox, Reimann, Gorham, Mickelson.and City of Ramsey civil suit. Copies of these minutes recording the activity of the meeting will be released at the discretion of the City Council following completion and settlement of the suit. City Attorney Bill Goodrich opened the discussion by backgrounding the entire Council on the issues of the case. The pretrial is scheduled for April 5, 1978 with the actual trial scheduled for the week of April 17, 1978. Mr. Goodrich went on to explain that the purpose of the meeting was to refresh the Council's memory on the case and also consider the possibility of a settlement offer. Mr. Goodrich and Mr. Steffan recommended to the City Council that they authorize a $3,000 settle- ment to be used at the discretion of the City Attorneys. The follow- ing points were discussed: 1) Legal costs of the pretrial and trial to the City would be $3,000 to $5,000. 2) Although the case in their opinion is a sound one, the possibility of a jury becoming sympathetic to Ms. Nelson exists, the attorneys
