SPECIAL MEETING <br />RAMSEY CITY COUNCIL <br /> CITY OF RAMSEY <br /> COUNTY OF ANOKA <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Mayor Cox <br />Councilman Gamec <br />Councilman Muller <br />Councilman Reimann <br />Councilman Mickelson <br /> <br />Members Absent: <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Bill Goodrich, City Attorney <br />Bernie Steffan <br />Phil Nereson, City Administrator <br />Clayton Berg, Building Official <br /> <br />A special meeting of the Ramsey City Council was held Tuesday, <br />March 28, 1978, at 5:00 P.M. at City Attorney Bill Goodrich's office, <br />316 East Main Street, Anoka, Minnesota 55303. <br /> <br />The meeting was an announced closed meeting, being announced at the <br />March 27, 1978 regular City Council meeting. The meeting was termed <br />closed for attorney-client relations regarding the Nelson vs. Cox, <br />Reimann, Gorham, Mickelson.and City of Ramsey civil suit. <br /> <br />Copies of these minutes recording the activity of the meeting will <br />be released at the discretion of the City Council following completion <br />and settlement of the suit. <br /> <br />City Attorney Bill Goodrich opened the discussion by backgrounding <br />the entire Council on the issues of the case. The pretrial is <br />scheduled for April 5, 1978 with the actual trial scheduled for the <br />week of April 17, 1978. <br /> <br />Mr. Goodrich went on to explain that the purpose of the meeting was <br />to refresh the Council's memory on the case and also consider the <br />possibility of a settlement offer. Mr. Goodrich and Mr. Steffan <br />recommended to the City Council that they authorize a $3,000 settle- <br />ment to be used at the discretion of the City Attorneys. The follow- <br />ing points were discussed: <br /> <br />1) Legal costs of the pretrial and trial to the City would be $3,000 <br />to $5,000. <br /> <br />2) Although the case in their opinion is a sound one, the possibility <br />of a jury becoming sympathetic to Ms. Nelson exists, the attorneys <br /> <br /> <br />
