ORDINANCE #04-25 CITY OF RAMSEY ANOKA COUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA AN AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 8 WHICH IS KNOWN AS THE BUILDING AND HOUSING CHAPTER OF THE CITY CODE OF RAMSEY, MINNESOTA. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8 BY ADDING CHAPTER 1306, SUBPART 3, NEW BUILDINGS WITH ITEM E, OPTION 1, IN THE MINNESOTA BUILDING CODE. The City of Ramsey ordains: SECTION 1. AMENDMENT Chapter 8 of the Ramsey City Code is hereby amended with Ordinance #04-25 by adding Chapter 1306, Subpart 3, as letter "c". (The current letter "c" becomes "d" and so on.) The new letter "c" shall read as follows: Chapter 1306 - Fire Suppression Systems (Subpart 3, New Buildings with Item E, Option 1 ) SECTION 2. PURPOSE Thc purpose of this amendment is to provide long term public safety for the future of our community, the safety of our firefighters, and the economic stability of the City of Ramsey. SECTION 3. SUMMARY Thc following official summary of Ordinance #04-25 has been approved by the City Council of the City of Ramsey as clearly informing the public of the intent and effect of the Ordinance. It is the intcnt and effect of Ordinance #04-25 to add reference to Chapter 1306 to Chapter 8 of the City Code, dealing with special fire protection systems. This chapter allows the City to require fire sprinklers in homes according to what code they are built to. Commercial structures woukl havc a lower threshold they would be held to (in many cases to 2,000 square feet). Residential (reference to Option 1) New Construction Only - Option 1 requires sprinklers in all residential occupancies that are greater than 8,500 square feet. (This 8,500 square feet is the gross area of the residence including all floors, basements, and garages.) This wouhl not affect ttnattached one attd two fantily hontes unless they are over 8,500 square feet. SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE Thc cffectivc (late oF this ordinance is thirty (30) days after its passage and publication, subject to City Charter Scction 5.07.
