PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey Public Works Committee conducted a regular meeting on Tuesday, November 21,
2000, at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota.

Members Present:

Chairperson Gerald Zimmerman
Councilmember Terry Hendriksen

Also Present:

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Dean Kapler
Public Works Supervisor Grant Riemer
City Engineer Steve Jankowski
City Engineer Brian Olson

CALL TO ORDER

Chairperson Zimmerman called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at
5:30 p.m.

CITIZEN INPUT

Councilmember Zimmerman stated that he has received complaints regarding drainage problems
north of the new fire station along Armstrong Boulevard. He forwarded the information he
received to staff for their review.

COMMITTEE BUSINESS

Case #1:

Address Citizen Concern for Speed Control on Waco Street NW Between
149th Avenue NW and 150th Avenue NW

Oity Engineer Jankowski stated that at the October 24, 2000 Council meeting, Roberta Mathesen
a resident at 14970 Waco Street NW appeared to request that consideration be given to some
measures to slow the speed of the traffic on Waco Street NW specifically between 149th Avenue
NW and 150th Avenue NW. The segment of Waco Street NW was constructed in 1992 as a
Minnesota State Aid (MSA) street and was constructed to a width of 43 feet, which compares to
a 24 width north of 150th Avenue NW and 28 feet south of 149th Avenue NW. Although this
segment of street is substantially wider than the remainder of Waco Street NW south of 149th
Avenue NW, similar concerns regarding traffic speed have been received from the segment to the
south as well. Staff is in the process of purchasing a speed watch trailer, and is expecting
delivery by January 2001. The speed trailer is an effective device to advise motorists of concern
over traffic speed within the neighborhood, and of reminding the motorist of the speed limit and
their own speed. In addition to these functions, the unit being purchased will also come equipped

Public Works Committee/November 21, 2000
