I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />Councilmember Peterson introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION #93-02-021 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF MARCH 7, 1993 THROUGH <br />MARCH !4, i993 AS VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK IN THE CITY OF <br />RAMSEY <br /> <br /> WH~RI~AS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian human service organization, is <br />celebratinglits 97th year of service to the people of Minnesota and the nation; it is therefore <br />certainly app~ opfiate for us, the City of Ramsey, to join in the observance of this milestone with <br />the commem~ rallon of March 7 - 14, 1993 as Volunteers of America Week; and <br /> <br /> Wi-I,~REAS, the Volunteers of America is making a valuable contribution by providing <br />these servi°e~ to adults and the elderly: five homes for mentally disabled, mentally ill, chemically <br />dependent '~. ogelderly adults; congregate dining for senors at 45 sites in Anoka and Hennepin <br />Counties; h0ine delivered meals for persons 60 years of age and over; semi-independent living <br />services and ~upgorted living services; three housing complexes for families, the handicapped, and <br />the elderly; arid four long-term health care facilities; and, <br /> <br /> WH~REiAS, the Volunteers of America provides these services for children and youth: <br />six programS. ;~erving autistic, autistic-like, and/or development-ally disabled children and youth; a <br />children's e~rg~ncy shelter; in-home services; 59 foster treatment homes and correction group <br />homes; a ref~fttential treatment center for emotionally handicapped boys; a specialized behavioral <br />program for. I[~yg with severe problems; short-term after care for youth with special needs; and <br /> <br /> W~AS, the Volunteers of America provides two correctional services: a pre-release <br />and work-r~l~as~'correct~onal program serving men; and a women s jml, workhouse and work- <br />release correctional program; and, <br /> <br /> WHF-,REAS, 'the Volunteers of America, through its dedicated staff and volunteers and <br />the many people who support their work through financial contributions make a significant impact <br />on the lives 0f people in the City of Ramsey; and <br /> <br /> WH~EAS, the Volunteers of America is commemorating its founding in 1896 and <br />urges othersi~ join~ them in bridging the gap between human needs and the resources of the public <br />and private sector, <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSAY, :ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) Thatilhe City of Ramsey does hereby proclaim the week of March 7 - 14, 1993 as <br /> Volunteers of America Week in Ramsey. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />That cOpies of this proclamation be transmitted to the Volunteers of America as evidence of <br />our esteem. <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br />Hardin and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> <br /> MaY0[Gilbertson <br /> Coun¢llm~mber Peterson <br /> Councilm~mber Hardin <br /> Cou~raember Beyer <br /> Coung'fl~ ~ber Zimmerman <br /> <br /> <br />
