! ]

DECEMBER 1991, VOLUME 6, NO. 12

CALLING FOR POLICE?

When you have need to call for the Police Department, there sometimes exists some confusion
as to which phone number to use. But, when you need help and need it in a hurry, confusion can
lead to all kinds of unpleasantness. Therefore, this is a little reminder concerning "How to Contact
the Police" (being late for work for the first time in months and blowing a stop sign is one way, but
that's another story).
If you need the physical presence of the police and there is any degree of urgency in that need,
call 911. It can be a speeding car that just went by your house or you just came home and found
the front door kicked in. It doesn't have to be life threatening or "big-time" activity to use 911. If
you need an officer (or fire or ambulance), please use 911.
If you just have some need for information or you want an officer to stop by sometime during
the day, then call 427-6812. This will put you in touch with the police offices. After 5:00 p.m. and
on weekends, however, direct all urgent police calls to 911 and non-emergency calls to 427-1212.

COUNCILMEMBER RICHARD CICH RESIGNS:
REPLACEMENT TO BE APPOINTED

Councilmember Richard Cich has resigned from the City Council effective January 14, 1992.
According to the City Charter, when a vacancy in an elected office of the City occurs with 365 days
or more remaining in the term of the vacated office, there shall be a special election within 90 days
to elect a successor. When there remains less than 365 days in the unexpired term, the City
Council shall by a majority vote appoint a successor to serve for the remainder of said term.
Councilmember Cich's term expires December 31, 1992 and based on that, the City Council will
be taking applications for the Council vacancy. Any residents wishing to be considered for the
position should send a letter of interest to City Administrator Ryan Schroeder, Ramsey Municipal
Center, 15153 Nowthen Blvd. NW, Ramsey, MN 55303. Letters will be accepted until 5:00 p.m.
on Thursday, January 9, 1992. Appointment of a replacement councilmember will be on the
January 14,1992 City Council agenda for consideration.

AMERICAN RED CROSS -
SHOW SOMEONE YOU CARE

Most of us can't imagine the grief of losing everything we own in a house fire...or watching
someone being abused...or being homeless. That is where the Anoka Branch of the American
Red Cross comes in. Through I Care Kits, children can provide comfort to people of all ages by
making small packages of necessities that the Red Cross distributes to disaster victims, children in
group homes, shelters for the homeless and abused victims. Kits do not have to be costly, often
local businesses will donate items for them. If you have a group of young people who might be
interested in making I Care Kits, please call the Anoka Branch Red Cross office (785-1557) and
ask for more information. Bring comfort into the lives of those who are hurting! Your generosity
does make a difference!

HOMESTEAD REMINDER

Homestead cards will be mailed to all
qualified property owners by December 31,
1991. To qualify for the homestead
classification, you must own and occupy your
property on or before January 2, 1992. If you
are a new property owner in Ramsey, bring a
copy of your deed to the Anoka County
Courthouse and file a "New Owner
Application" with the County Assessor's
Office. Also, if there has been a change in
ownership due to the death of one of the
owners or a divorce settlement, the
Assessor's Office should be notified.
Homestead cards should be signed by the
property owner and returned to the County
Assessor's Office by January 11, 1992. If you
are a qualified property owner and do not
receive a homestead card, please contact the
County Assessor's Office at 421-4760.
Failure to file for the 1991 homestead
classification will result in a substantial
increase in your 1992 property taxes. It is
important to note that a false declaration of
homestead is a violation of Section 609.41,
Minnesota Statutes, and subject to
imprisonment of not more than one year
and/or a $1 ,000 fine.

INSIDE . . .

January Meetings .............................2
What's Happening ............................2
Lord of Life .......................................4
Snowmobile Ordinance .................4,5
Horse Requirements ........................5
Recycle batteries..............................5
Cross of Hope ..................................5
Recycling Goal.................................6
Park and Rec ...................................7
Ramsey PTA ....................................8

-I
