OCTOBER 1991, VOLUME 6, NO. 10

ITHE CHECK1S IN THE MAll!n
Tree Planting Grant Approved
The City of Ramsey's 1991 tree planting efforts were given a boost by a $5,000 grant applied
for and received from the State of Minnesota Small Business Administration. The Minnesota
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is administering the grant for the purpose of expanding
small businesses' involvement in planting trees on local government land and creating
employment opportunities at a local level.
The City's $5,000 "in-kind" contribution to meet grant criteria is primarily in the way of planting
and maintenance over a three-year period.
The purpose of this particular tree planting project is to beautify and provide shade for public
open space and parks and to diversify the species mix. It will also provide examples of locally
hardy species, correct mulching, pruning and planting practices and demonstrate the proper
utilization of wood chips and yard waste compost that residents can apply in managing their
individual yard wastes. Further, part of the project will patronize three Ramsey nurseries and one
Ramsey landscape company.
Sixty-five deciduous trees will be planted at the Municipal Center, River's
Bend Park, Central Park and Rabbit Park. Five-acre Rabbit Park, as
you will recall is Ramsey's newest park located on Rabbit
Street north of County Road #63 in the northwest part of
Ramsey.
For information about the tree planting
or other park matters, fee free to
contact Mark Boos at 427-1741
or leave message at
427-1410.

WELCOME TO NEW CITY
STAFF MEMBER

We are pleased to announce Thomas
Lueck as the newest member in our Police
Department.
