MAY 1991, VOLUME 6, NO.5

RAMSEY LIONS
COMMUNITY PICNIC

')
---- --
Ail Ramsey residents are invited to a FREE picnic on Saturday, June 8, 1991. The event is
sponsored by the Ramsey Lions Club as a thank you for supporting their many fund raising
projects. A picnic this size requires help from many people and organizations and involves the
RYAA, Ramsey Fire Department, Ramsey Fire Auxiliary, and Ramsey PTA. The picnic hours are
from 3 to 9 p.m. and every Ramsey family can register for a free meal, door prizes, entertainment,
kiddie rides, games, and demonstrations. Extra food can be purchased for 25 cents per additional
item.
Entertainment this year will feature a rescue demonstration by the Ramsey Fire Department (4-
5 p.m.), the Wizard of Ah's (4:30-5:30 p.m.) and the North Suburban Community Bank (6 -7 p.m.).
Games will include a huge Bingo tent, special games for the children, and kiddie carnival rides
from 4:30-8:30 p.m.
Athletic activities include the mile run (3-4 p.m.), softball and soccer games during the
afternoon, and the City versus Country softball game (7:30 p.m.)
You will also see a special display by the Ramsey Fire Department using a small house to train
children on proper fire escape procedures.
Set this date aside on your calendar and join the fun of a Ramsey Lions Community Picnic at
Central Park (161 st and Armstrong Blvd.)

Signals al Counly Road 116 and Highway 47
10 be Relimed

Last November when the County Road 116 bridge was opened, signals were installed at
the intersection of County Road 116 and Highway 47. The initial signal timing has caused
delays for motorists, particularly at peak travel periods.
The Golden Valley office of Minnesota DOT has informed the City that it intends to retime
the signals to alleviate the delay problem. The new timing will create these district cycle
phases. One phase will allow northbound Highway 47 traffic to proceed while holding
southbound Highway 47 traffic, while the second phase will conversely allow southbound
Highway 47 to proceed while holding northbound traffic. The third phase will hold all Highway
47 traffic and allow County Road 116 to proceed in both directions as it does at the present
time. The timing change is expected to be completed before the end of May. Minnesota DOT
has also indicated that they are contemplating additional lanes by 1991 which will allow for
the more traditional two phase timing with left lanes being accommodated with a dedicated
turn lane and signal.
Motorists are reminded that until the signal timing is changed they should refrain from
proceeding straight through the intersection from the right turn only lane. This movement is
both illegal and hazardous.

SANDBURG COMMUNITY
SCHOOL

News from Sandburg Community School!
This year has been fun-filled with classes,
games, trips and more at the Sandburg
Community School.
