WOW! THOSE RAMSEY LIONS

REALLY KNOW HOW TO

THROW A PARTY!

The 2nd annual community picnic, sponsored by
the Ramsey Lions and held on June 11, was a
tremendous success. Between 4,000 and 5,000 peo-
ple turned out for the event. The Lions served 2,300
hot dogs; 1,500 corn dogs; 2,000 ears of corn; 5,000
gallons of pop; and lots and lots of watermelon.
Three $100 bonds were given as gate prizes for
adults; there was over $1200 worth of children's
prizes given away. A word of thanks to the Ramsey
businesses that donated a total of 500:!: prizes for
the bingo tent.
Ramsey recognizes and applauds the Lions for the
tremendous amount of work and funds they have put
into an annual event that has done so much to pro-
mote Ramsey's identity amongst the residents
themselves.
Ramsey would also like to extend a special thanks
to the Ramsey Youth Athletic Association, especially
Kem King and Jill Prall, for their tireless efforts to
assist the Lions before and during the picnic. A word
of thanks should also go to the Ramsey Jaycees,
Boy Scouts, Ramsey Ranger Saddle Club and the
Senior Citizens Club for their assistance in making
the day the great success that it was.
Again, thanks to the Ramsey Lions for putting so
much time and effort into giving us that good 01'
MIDYEAR HOMESTEAD

Residents who own and occupy their property
after January 2, 1987, and prior to June 1, 1987,
qualify for the mid-year homestead credit. Property
owners must file for the mid-year homestead credit
as soon as possible. The credit filed in June affects
taxes due in 1988 and could mean substantial dif-
ference in your property taxes. Ramsey residents
must file for mid-year homestead credit at the Anoka
County Assessors Office in the Anoka County Cour-
thouse at 325 East Main in Anoka.
RAMSEY TRAIL SYSTEM

The Ramsey Parks Commission has worked over the
past year to initiate a City wide trail system. This is
in response to residents' demands for designated
snowmobile, horse and bike trails as well as
pedestrian and cross country ski trails. The propos-
ed trail system is shown on a City map on page 2
illustrating potential trail corridors. The proposed cor-
ridors have been selected based on:

· Ability to link one park to another.
· Ability to link commercial, government or other
activity centers with residential and park
development.
· Diversity of terrain, vegetation or other natural
amenities.
· Compatibility with existing development.
· Potential for construction.

At the present time, the City is emphasizing the
dedication of park lands in developing areas which
will ultimately provide a trail system.

While several segments of trail corridor have been
dedicated by developers, no complete trail is yet
publicly owned or constructed. The trail plan should
be considered a dynamic plan subject to changes
which responds to residents needs, changes in Ci-
ty ordinances, inability to complete a trail segment
or other circumstances.

The minimum right-of-way width for a trail corridor
with multiple treadway trails is 40 feet with 75 feet
width being the preferred standard. Within these cor-
ridors a typical trail would provide a separate grass
treadway for horseback riding and an improved sur-
face treadway for biking or hiking. In some instances,
and where designated, these treadways may be us-
ed in winter for cross country skiing or snowmobiling.

In developed areas, single purpose treadways are
anticipated which would require much narrower
right-of-ways.

Development of a City wide trail system is an am-
bitious undertaking, but well worth pursuing.

If you have comments or questions, please call City
Hall at 427-1410 or attend a Parks Commission
meeting. The Ramsey Parks Commission meets the
second Thursday of the month.
