RAMSEY RESIDENT SPECIAL ISSUE APRIL 1988 CITY NEWSLETTER SPECIAL ELECTION APRIL 19, 1988 On April 19, 1988, there will be a special election in Ramsey on two issues: Airport Zoning Ordinance -and- Volunteer Fire Department The Gateway North Industrial Airport Zoning Ordinance was introduced in 1987 and generated a petition requesting that the adoption of this ordinance be submitted to a referen- dum. The purpose of the Ordinance is to prevent establishment of airport hazards, to pro- tect the airport, to protect property and persons on the ground and provide aircraft with safe maneuvering space near the airport. The City Council has also asked that the voters opinion be expressed via an advisory elec- tion on whether or not Ramsey should establish it's own volunteer fire department. Cur- rently, Ramsey contracts with the Cities of Anoka and Elk River for it's fire protection. Since the fall of 1987, a special study committee has been evaluating how fire protection should be provided for the City of Ramsey in the future and has recommended that a volunteer fire department be established.
