......... - , ut Volume I Number 3 MARCH 19,1983 RAMSEY NEWSLETTER HAZARDOUS WASTE SITE HEARING Un March 21, 1983, the Minnesota Waste Man- agement Board will hold Public Hearings at Ipm and 7:30pm in the Ramsey City Hall for the purpose of gathering information on the pro- posed Hazardous Waste Site in the City of Ramsey. ALL RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO ATTEND!!!! I!! The hearing will be held before an Examiner of the Office of Administrative Hearings, Howard L. Kaibel. Information related to the criteria util- izied by the Waste Management Board (MWB) as well as any other information which may assist the WMB in determining whether an area should be included in the final inventory or processing areas may be submitted at the hearing. The WMB is a statutory agency of th! State of Minnesota with responsibility for identi- fying areas which may be used for the estab- lishment of commercial hazardous waste pro- cessing facilities. The nine me.ber board includes eight citizen .e.bers, one fro. each of the state's Congressional districts, and a full-time chairman who is a state employee. The chairman, in addi- tion to being a member of the board, is also the executive and operating officer of the board and as such is authorized by statue to carry out the executive and administrative functions of the board. The WMB staff is supervised by the chairman. At each of the March 21st hearings, the following procedures shall be followed: 1) The hearing will be opened by the hearing examiner who will explain the hearing proce- dures. 2) The WMB staff will introduce the juris- dictional documents, the WMB criteria, and ths report containg the basis for proposing the area for inclusion in the Board's inventory. 3) The WMB staff will briefly s~..arize the basis for including the area in the inventory; g) Me.bers of the public will be given an op- portuni ty to make oral statements, to offer written documents into the record and to direct questions to the WMB staff. Represent- atives of the WMB staff may address questions to members of the public. 5) The hearing examiner may exclude testimony which is irrelevant, immaterial, or unduly re- petitious. In addition, the hearing examiner may disallow questioning which is irrelevant, immaterial, unduly repetitious, argumentative, harassing, or adversarial in nature. 6) Pursuant to Minn. Stat. # 624.72 (1982), nQ person shall interfer with the conduct of, or disrupt or threaten interference with or dis- ruption of the hearing. In the event of any interference or disruption or threat thereof. the hearing exa.iner .ay take appropriate action. 7) Following the end or the nearing. .e.ber~ ~ the public will have seven workins da,s in con't on page 3 FAMILY FUN DAY Ramsey's annual Family Fun Day will be held Saturday, April 16th from 11 to 3 pm. at Ramsey Elementary School. Itls carnival time in the good old west again. Put on your western duds and get ready to have a fun day with the whole family. Admission is ten cents per ticket. There will be games and prizes, movies, pony rides and much more. A well supplied mercantile will feature craft items, baked goods and other fun ite.s to purchase. Concessions include pop, popcorn cotton candy and a low priced lunch menu. With generous contributions from area businesses as well as time and talent from volunteers, Family Fun Day '83 should be a- nother great success. Proceeds from this event, as in the past, will be used for the benefit of Ramsey Students. -Vickie Reinkinq Pancake Breakfast The Ramsey Youth Athletic Association (RYAA) will hold its fourth annual Pancake Breakfast on March 27th from 6am-2pm.. The site of the breakfast has been moved to the Ramsey City Hall. Proceeds from this event benefit all of the youth programs sponsored by the RYAA. If you are new to the area or have children startin~ schooL, stop at the Pancake Breakfast for information on the programs available to your children.
