AMSEY
City Newsletter
Vol. 1 No.2

Bulk Rate
U. S. Postage
PAID

Anoka, Minn.
Permit No. 131

Don Walker, City Manager

May 1976

BITS [i]
jlECES

Spring is here and all of the people of Ramsey should
be working hard to clean up their property. This is the
time to look at what all of the snow kept covered during
the winter. If it doesn't look good, get rid of it - judge
yourself before you judge your neighbor.

I

School will be out very shortly - be extra careful in
your driving. Children will be playing everywhere, riding
bikes, going fishing, playing ball - let them enjoy life and
live to go back to school again.
.

Robert Casper, our previous building/inspector assessor,
resigned in April and left Minnesota to reside in Florida.
Mr. Lester Wirz has been employed as City of Ramsey
inspector/assessor. Mr. Wirz is also an assessor for Burns
Township.

Voting - registration - 1976 Election Year
Remember, 1976 is an election year. We would like
an outstanding turnout at the polls, so register! It is
your right to VOTE.

The new municipal building is in the planning stage.
The building committee has been meeting on a weekly
basis, and tentative plans of the new building are on file
at the city hall. All interested persons are invited to
examine them. Public input is highly desired by the
building committee. Contact the city hall as to meeting
times and places. I

The City of Ramsey engaged Orren W. Fricke, Consulting
Engineers Diversified Inc.; Bernard E. Steffen, Consultant; and
William Goodrich, Attorney; to prepare an Urban Planning
District Study for the City of Ramsey. The area designated by the
Ramsey City Council for the study is generally bounded as
follows:
By the Rum River to the east, 153rd Street to the north,
Sunfish Lake Boulevard to the west, and County Highway 56 to
the south. This area was designated for the study for a number of
reasons. Some of the ten factors influencing the selection
are: plans and data in the Metropolitan Council development
framework indicating that the City of Ramsey should designate
between three and five square miles for inclusion within the 1990
Metro Urban Service Area; its contiguous location to a free
standing center (Anoka); an indication of demand for commercial
development in Ramsey; likelihood of Metro Sewer interceptor

availability within the relatively near future.
This is just a brief summary of why the study was undertaken.
The report is now complete and can be checked out for individual
study at the Ramsey City Hall. The study does affect everyone in
Ramsey and there will be a public hearing on the changes that the
study recommends for the City's comprehensive plan in the near
future.
Numerous advertised public meetings have been held on this
study and the City Council hopes that this article will generate
some interest in this most important endeavor. The Council most
certainly desires public input at all the meetings. Come and get
acquainted with the plan.
A REMINDER - OPERATION IDENTIFICATION IS
AVAILABLE AT THE CITY OFFICE. This is a very important
tool in the prevention of crime.
