It was wonderful to be a part of a very special and important
event where the community comes together to teach our children bike
safety in hopes of never having another tragedy such as Becky's.

An event like this cannot be held without the help of many volunteers
and businesses contributing their talents, financial support and prize
donations. A big THANKS to the Ramsey Lions Club, SAFE-T-FLARE,
Ramsey Community Education, Ramsey City officials Mayor Jim
Gilbertson, Councilmembers Sheila Beyer, Glen Hardin, Ken Peterson and
Gerry Zimmerman, the Ramsey Fire Department, Health One, all of the
volunteers too numerous to mention, the parents and the kids themselves.
Continued on Page 2

RAMSEY SHINES ON CLEAN-UP DAY

The 1992 Clean-up Day held on May 2, 1992 in the City of Ramsey
witnessed its most successful year with over 500 Ramsey homeowners
taking advantage of hauling one free load of rubbish into the landfill.
Even with this huge turnout there was no waiting line after 9:00 a.m. On
Clean-up Day over 345 tires were recycled along with 111 major
appliances. The City also saw over 30 miles of roadside ditches picked
clean of litter during Clean-up Day. The annual Clean-up Day is
becoming more successful as residents are better informed of the event
and the need to make their home environments as inviting as possible.
The City has also received numerous calls from residents requesting
information on how to have inoperable and/or unlicensed vehicles
removed from their residences. If you require this information, please
contact Project Manager Jim Gromberg at 427-141 O.

The biggest blemish to the City of Ramsey on Clean-up Day was that
the City collected over 17 appliances and more than 100 tires from City
property and roadside ditches. This illegal dumping costs all of us more
in increased taxes and causes our City greatly reduced scenic beauty. If
you see someone illegally dumping or disposing of materials on City
property, please take down the license number of the vehicle and call the
Ramsey Police Department. If you have illegally dispOS3d of materials in
the past, please refrain from continuing this practice and return to the
area to retrieve the materials for proper disposal.

Once again, thank you to all of the volunteers that made the 1992
Ramsey Clean-up Day a smashing success.

COMPLETION OF 153RD AVENUE
N.W. TO BE ASSESSED

Ramsey's rapidly growing population will generate increased traffic
which, the City's Comprehensive Plan estimates, could triple in the next
20 years. A system of coliector and arterial streets is the best metho!
of handling this traffic which would otherwise travel residenti,
streets to reach its destination in the most direct manner. The State
of Minnesota recognizes the importance of such collector and arterial
streets in providing a safe and efficient transportation network and allows
communities to designate up to 20% of their local street mileage onto the
Continued on Page 5

I
