<br /> <br /> <br />SEPT/OCT 1994, VOLUME 9, NO.8 <br />RAMSEY CITY CODE <br />LEASH ORDINANCE <br /> <br />FILINGS FOR MAYOR AND <br />CITY COUNCIL SEA TS/ <br />CHARTER COMMISSION UPDATE <br /> <br />Over the past year, the Charter Commission has been reviewing the current <br />electoral system in the City of Ramsey. Current City Council terms are in <br />overlapping four-year increments. The Mayor's term is presently for two years. <br />All elected offices (four Councilmembers and Mayor) are "at large" as opposed <br />to the ward system which elects persons by a district. The Charter Commission <br />had surveyed the public during this past year requesting input on the various <br />issues. Survey returns were few and inconclusive. The Commission has <br />determined not to recommend any changes in the system prior to the nextelection. <br />Notice is hereby given that the City of Ramsey will accept affidavits of <br />candidacy for the Office of Mayor for a two-year term and two Councilmember <br />at Large seats, each for a four-year term. Filing for office opens at 8;30 a.m. on <br />Tuesday, August 30,1994 and closes at 5:00 p~m. on Tuesday, September 13, <br />1994. A fee of $5.00 must be paid at the time of filing. <br />If you need further information, contact Jo at427-141 O. <br /> <br />ATTENTION RAMSEY RESIDENTS <br />Park and Recreation Commission <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey is currently seeking a candidate to fill a vacancy on its <br />Park and Recreation Commission. The primary objective of the Commission is <br />to monitor and reflect the atti tudes and concerns of the citizens of Ramsey relative <br />to the park system and recreation programs, and to advise the City Council of <br />citizen attitudes and policy matters relevant to the park and recreation function in <br />Ramsey. The Park and Recreation Commission meets on the second Thursday of <br />the month at6;OO p.m. Ramsey residents interested in serving on the Commission <br />are requested to submit a letter of application by 5:00 p.m. by Friday, September <br />2, 1994 to Kay McAloney, Administrative Services Manager at Ramsey <br />Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota 55303. <br />Letters of application should contain the applicant's name, address, telephone <br />number, work experience, education, and any experience in municipal affairs. In <br />addition, applicants should include a statement listing their reasons for seeking <br />appointmentto the Park and Recreation Commission. Ramsey City Code states that no <br />person shall allow any animals of any type to run at large <br />(including cats). Additionally ,every owner or kccperof <br />a dog shall have the dog under the control and in custody <br />of a person of sufficient age to adequately control the <br />dog at all times while the dog is off the premises of the <br />owner. "Control" and "custody" means on a leash of not <br />more than 6 feet in length. It is legal to have a dog in an <br />automobile without a leash, but it must be on a leash if <br />taken outofthe vehicle. Violation of the leash ordinance <br />is a misdemeanor. <br /> <br />OAK WILT COST-SHARE <br />AVAILABLE <br /> <br />TheCityofRamsey currently has funds available to <br />assist residents in the removal of spore producing trees <br />and trenching for root graft disruption for prevention of <br />the spread of oak wilt to healthy trees. This financial <br />assistance is based upon a fifty-fifty splitofLhe total cost <br />of the control plan. You can also earn credit for any <br />approved control work that you complete, at a rate of <br />$3.50 per hour for your share of the cost. <br />Residents interested in this should fill out the <br />application below. After the City receives your <br />application, a representative will come out to inspect <br />your trees. If oak wilt is found, an oak wilt control plan <br />will be developed and your cost will be 1/2 Lhe cost ofLhe <br />control work with the oak wilt control grant funds <br />paying the other half.
