It is the fifth year
Ramsey has received this national recognition.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by The
National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the
USDA Forest Service and the National Association of
State Foresters.
To become a Tree City USA, a community must;; _
meet four standards: a tree board or department, a city
tree ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry
program, and an Arbor Day observance.
"A community's tree-planting program is a living
memorial to the citizens' concern for the quality of life.
The trees we plant and care for today will in~rease
property values, cool and beautify our cities, fight
pollution, conserve energy, and give wildlife a home for
years to come," John Rosenow, The National Arbor Day
Foundation's executive director, said.
"An effective community forestry program is an
ongoing process of renewal and improvementna
program of tree planting and care that continues through
the years," Rosenow said. "The Tree City USA award
is an excellent indication that there is a solid foundation
for that process of improvement."

FOURTH ANNUAL BECKY
WEISS BIKE ROAD-EO

The fourth annual Becky Weiss Memorial Bike
Road-eo was a success with over 330 children
participating in the road-eo, created to educate children
on bicycle safety.
Under sunny skies, children participated in the
road-eo by receiving a bright colored T -shirt, a thorough
bicycle inspection and tune-up: a safety lecture and
video by the Minnesota State Patrol, a safety obstacle
course, lunch, and a drawing for bicycles and tickets to
a Twins game with the Ramsey Police Department.
Many thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers,
businesses, participants and people who made this year's
road-eo a success. Look for a detailed article and photos
in the next issue of the Ramsey Resident.
