"This is another
example of how the City, through the development of unique partnerships,
can provide for the growth of the industrial tax base of the community
and the growth of a local company," stated Mayor Tom Gamec. He also
noted that the City of Ramsey now has 264,000 square feet of industrial
projects currently under construction. This makes 1997 the second most
active year ever, with more than four months remaining in the year.
Duane Jones, AcCent Home & Kitchen Center president, started
the company as D & E Cabinets and Millwork, Inc. in his garage in
1966. By 1969, the business had outgrown the garage, basement, and an
addition, and a separate building was constructed.
In 1978, to better serve customers, sales was separated from
manufacturing and AcCent Home & Kitchen Center, Inc. was introduced.
AcCent was located in Anoka and primarily operated as a retail sales
location for products produced by D & E Cabinets and Millwork,
Continued on Page 3

The City is planning several
opportunities for citizen input during the process
of developing an updated Comprehensive Plan.
The first opportunity is an informational meeting
at City Hall on Thursday, September 4 at 7 p.m.
The second opportunity is a "visioning"
discussion at Ramsey Elementary School on
Thursday, September 18 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Members of the public are welcome at
both meetings and there is no charge. In order
to ensure adequate seating, materials and
refreshments, you are encouraged to
pre-register for the September 18 meeting by
calling 427-1410 and giving your name. Your
name tag will be waiting for you when you arrive
at the meeting and you won't need to wait in
line to register.
Municipalities in the seven-county
metropolitan area are required to adopt and
implement Comprehensive Plans to ensure
thoughtful, long-term planning to deal with land
use, transportation needs, and environmental
protection. Zoning ordinances and development
policies are vehicles cities commonly use to
make certain there is conformance to the
comprehensive plan.
With the continued high rate of growth
during the past decade, Ramsey's existing
comprehensive plan has become outdated.
Recently the City Council contracted with the
consulting firm of Hoisington Keogler Group,
Inc. to facilitate the updating process, which is
expected to take 12 to 18 months.
The tentative schedule of activities
involved in updating the plan include data
collection and review during July, August and
Continued on Page 3
