<br /> <br />CITY NEWSLETTER SPECIAL EDITION VOLUME 12, NO.6 <br /> <br />CITY PERMITTING OPEN BURN <br /> <br />TO DEAL WITH STORM DAMAGE <br /> <br />Permit Required, but Charge Waived <br /> <br />for August 23 only <br /> <br />On August 23, 1997, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., the City will allow <br />Ramsey residents with permits to bum trees and brush left by recent <br />storms. Burning permits for that day will be free, but must be obtained <br />at City Hall during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, before <br />the day of the open bum. Because each bum site must be inspected prior <br />to the date of the bum, interested residents are urged to pick up their <br />permits as early in the month as possible. In case ofrain, the open bum. <br />will be permitted on August 30. <br />It is the responsibility of the resident wishing to utilize the <br />open burn permit to apply for the burning permit and comply with <br />the following requirements. <br /> <br />Keep the fire under control at all times. Attend the burn site at <br />all times during burning. <br /> <br />The diameter of the burning area may not exceed 10 feet at any <br />time during the bum. <br /> <br />Site must be at least 100 ft. from any structure. <br /> <br />Use a clean burning device to start the fire. <br /> <br />Have the permit available at the bum site for inspection. <br /> <br />Fires producing heavy smoke or smoke causing a nuisance to <br />either neighbors or traffic will be extinguished immediately. <br /> <br />Permits will be for the disposal of brush and trees only. Prohibited <br />materials are: oils, rubber, plastics, tires, railroad ties and <br />construction debris. <br /> <br />If fire suppression services are required by the open bum the <br />permit holder shall be responsible for the service charges @$250/ <br />hour, along with any other costs incurred by the city. The city is <br />not responsible for damages resulting from open bum activities. <br /> <br />To extinguish the fire immediately if the permit is revoked. <br /> <br />Burning hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on August 23rd, with August <br />30 as the rain day. <br /> <br />The Ramsey fire department will be patrolling the day of the <br />bum to assure compliance. The City would appreciate neighbors grouping <br />together to form a mutual bum site. "Since we acquired the property <br />from a private owner, the City was willing to <br />restructure its traditional development program <br />to fit our unique needs." <br />
