JUNE 1997, VOLUME 12, NO.4
RAMSEY FIRE DEPARTMENT
AWARDED GRANT FOR
CARDIAC DEFIBRILLA TOR

CITY NEWSLE

THE CITY OF RAMSEY WELCOMES
HERITAGE MILLWORK

The City of Ramsey is proud to announce the construction of a new'.
32,000 square foot facility for Heritage Millwork, Inc. This new facility will be
located on the cul-de-sac of McKinley Street Northwest in the Ramsey Business
Park.
Heritage Millwork, Inc. provides high quality millwork, such as door and
window trim, baseboards, stair rails, and pre-hung doors, to lumber yards that cater
to local building contractors. The company grew from the idea of two employees
in the millwork industry that a market niche existed for a company that could
provide high quality service and superior products to their customers. The result
is Heritage Millwork, Inc., which provides custom orders with a turnaround time
of 24 to 48 hours to facilitate the construction needs of the customer.
Currently, the company employes a total of25 people. In the future, the
company will probably add employees as it expands its product line to fit the needs
of its customer base. The Ramsey site will allow for the eventual expansion of the
facility to over 60,000 square feel.
Deciding to build in Ramsey was an easy decision, according to Julian
Johnson,a principal owner in the new company, because of "the City' scommitment
to the development of a strong commerciaVindustrial tax base and its ability to
make this project a reality."
Speaking for the City, Ramsey Mayor Tom Gamec notes that, "Heritage
Millwork, like the City of Ramsey , is committed to the development of mutually
beneficial long term relationships with its customers. This shared commitment
will allow for the continued growth of the City's commercial/industrial tax base
and the growth of Heritage Millwork to its full potential."

Ramsey City Administrator Ryan Schroeder; Ramsey City Councilmembers
Gerald Zimmermann, Carolyn Beahen and Natalie Haas Steffen; Heritage Millwork,
Inc. Controller Bob Perovich; Goldstar Builders representative Warren Hokanson;
and Heritage Millwork, Inc. owner Julian Johnson.

.. The Ramsey Fire Department was honored
: recently by The Prudential Insurance Company of
:: America for acquiring a portable cardiac defibrillator
: through the Prudential Helping Hearts Program. During
::: the April 22, 1997 City Council meeting, the Fire
:. Department was presented with $1 ,692 from Prudential
.... to cover approximatel y half the cost of the defibrillation
> unit.

U The Prudential Helping Hearts Program was
\ started in New Jersey, in 1994, as a matching grants
initiative to helpspced the acquisition of portablccardiac
defibrillation units by volunteer rescue squads and fire
departments. Defibrillators, which administer jolts of
electricity to "reset" the heart's natural rhythm, have
been called one of the most important lifesaving
inventions of the 20th century. By the end of 1996,
nearly 1,000 rescue squads in 13 states had qualified for
$2.5 million in grants from the Prudential Helpling
Hearts Program.
Dave Bawden, of Prudential Real Estate
Affiliates in Ramsey, praised the Ramsey Fire
Department during the presentation. "Prudential
commends you for your tireless efforts to help the
residents of your communities," he told them. "We
applaud your selfless volunteerism and are pleased to be
able to help you acquire these life-saving machines."

::..
