EDA #

1999 Business Development and Appreciation Day
Prepared by: Community Development Assistant Sean Walther

Background:

Staff is preparing for the Business Development and Appreciation Day. The checklist includes ordering plaques and trophies, door prizes, prizes for drawings, soliciting hole sponsors,
and advertising.

The plaque recognizing Delores St. Germain of St. Germain Style as the 1999 inductee to the Business Hall of Fame has been ordered. The cost of the plaque and engraving will be charged
to the City Council budget.

The brochures have been printed, and a front page article and colored insert will be appear in the next Chamber Newsletter.

In the past, the event has basically paid for itself. The only costs included green fees, carts, dinner, a free sleeve of balls and some tees to the golfers at the beginning, and prizes
for drawings are given away during dinner.

Observations:

The City has not been too aggressive soliciting prize donations, as this is an event that is to honor the businesses and encourage fellowship with the City and its business people.

The Mayor is interested giving away a nicer gift this year to each participant. He has suggested an embroidered golf shirt. The cost of the shirt would probably be $11.00/ea. However,
this would leave only the hole sponsor donations, pro shop money, and about $1.00 per golfer for the purchase of the other prizes. Unless, the EDA is interested in donating additional
money toward the golf shirts. Other options might be a high quality cap or golf towel.

Also, staff requests help from EDA members to encourage area business people to sponsor a hole, donate a prize that showcases their product or service, and of course to participate in
the golf tournament and dinner.

EDA Action:

Based on discussion.
