PUBLIC HEARING
PLANNING COMMISSION
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey Planning Commission conducted a public hearing on Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at the
Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota, regarding a
request for a Conditional Use Permit to Exceed the Total Accessory Structure Space and the
Maximum Single Accessory Structure Size Restrictions; Case of Jon Hamann.

Members Present:

Chairperson David Bawden
Commissioner Leo Anderson
Commissioner Benjamin Deemer
Commissioner Sharon Jensen
Commissioner Joe Wivoda

Members Absent:

Commissioner Charles LaDue
Commissioner Michael Terry

Also Present:

Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik
Community Development Assistant Sean Walther

CALL TO ORDER

Chairperson Bawden convened the public hearing at 7:45 p.m.

PRESENTATION

Zoning Administrator Frolik explained the property is 1.08 acres in size and restricted to a total of
1,664 square feet of garage and accessory building space. In addition, there is an 800 square foot
size restriction on any single accessory structure. The applicant currently has a 576 square foot
garage and is proposing to construct a 1,200 square foot accessory building in which to store
personal and recreational vehicles and equipment. The conditional use permit was drafted to
emphasize that the excessive size of the building does not provide the opportunity to operate a
business from the building. The addition of the proposed 1,200 square foot building would
increase the total garage space on the property to 1,776 square feet, which is a 112 square foot
overage. It also represents a 400 square foot overage in the size restriction for any single
accessory structure.

CITIZEN INPUT

Sharon Dahlgren, 6328 - 143ra lane NW, indicated residents were told that buildings were to be
built on the same side of the lot as the house, leaving the other side undeveloped. There are many
accessory structures in the neighborhood, however, they all sit in the rear of the lot. She said
there was a potential for tax increases if a building was located on the opposite side of the lot.
Public Hearing/Planning Commission/June 2, 1998
Page 1 of 2
