REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS
By: Public Works Staff

Background:

The Public WorkS Committee met on Tuesday, June 17, 2003 and discussed the following three
cases:

Case # 1 Consider Reduction' of Tiger Street Speed Limit

Background:

Tiger Street between CR 63 and CR 83 was at one time a County roadway. When the roadway
was turned over to the City the 55 m.p.h, speed limit did not change. Additional development
has occurred along this segment of roadway to the point it meets criteria for designation as a
rural residential district making it eligible for a 30 m.p.h, speed limit designation.

The Public Works Committee recommends to City Council that Tiger Street be declared a rural
residential district, that a resolution to that effect be passed and transmitted to the Commissioner
of Transportation, and that a 30 m.p.h, speed limit posting be erected 10 days thereafter.

Action:
Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee and adopt attached resolution.

Case 2:

Installation of Sidewalk on 145th Lane and 146th Avenue

Background:

As a result of discussion during the Village of Sunfish Lake plat, it was directed that a concrete
sidewalk be placed along 145th Lane from Sunwood Drive to Potassium Street. Staff presented a
schedule for installing this improvement as a non-assessable, public improvement project. Staff
also provided cost information associated with the project and requested direction on funding.

The Public Works Committee recommended that any shortfall of funds necessary for this project
should come from the City's trail fund. They also recommended that the Park Commission
should review this issue consistent with past policy to determine whether there should be any
contribution from the developer.

The Public Works Committee recommends that Staff determine the appropriate trail fee that
should be charged to the developer and that those funds be used towards the installation of the
sidewalks and if there is a shortfall on funds that the remaining dollars come out of the City's
trail fund. Motion was amended to direct Staff to forward the issue to the Park Commission for
their recommendation.

Action:
Ratify the recommendation of the Public Works Committee.
