Councilmember Zimmerman stated he is somewhat hesitant about that also. "We are strapped for
road dollars now".

Mr. Jankowski stated that pan of the calculation was generated from the construction of trails.

Mr. Schroeder added that these are not meant to be recreational trail. It's in place of a sidewalk,
basically, it says a pedestrian trail.

Councilmember Beyer stated she is still of the opinion that we have other major areas to deal with
other than trails at this time. She thought it was to help out with what we need on the highway -
we need signals - we do not need trails.

Councilmember Zimmerman expressed agreement. "If we had the money, it would be a different
story, but we do not have it".

Councilmember Beyer adamantly expressed she did not like trails nor does she want them.

Mr. Jankowski responded that the intent here is for only one purpose - and that is like a sidewalk
to separate pedestrians from vehicles. We have had two fatalities that he felt may not have
occurred if pedestrians were separated from the vehicles.

Mr. Schroeder inquired if Councilmembers Beyer and Zimmerman were open to prioritization such
as Priority A being signals, B being trails, etc.

Councilmember Zimmerman felt that made sense.

Consensus of the Road and Bridge Committee was to ask the City Council for input on this issue
and place it back on the Road and Bridge Committee agenda.

Case #3: Review Sunwood Drive (West) C.R. #116 - C.R. #56 Plans

City Engineer Jankowski presented the proposed plans for Sunwood Drive from C.R. #116 to
C.R. //56.

Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman to recommend
Council adopt the resolution authorizing the advertisement for bids for the plan for Sunwood Drive
(West).

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Councilmembers Beyer and Zimmerman. Voting
No: None.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman to adjourn the
meeting.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Councilmembers Beyer and Zimmerman. Voting No: None.

Road and Bridge Committee/April 9, 1996
