Trott Brook Greenway Corridor
Ramsey, Minnesota

LCMR Proposal 2003

Title:
Total Biennial:
Funding Priority:

Project Manager:

· Affiliation:
Mailing Address:

Telephone:
Fax:
E-Mail:
Location:

Trott Brook Greenway Corridor
$12,298,300
Conserve and Enhance Fish, Wildlife and Native Plant Habitat
Improves Recreational and Natural Systems
Conserve and Promote Healthy Waters
Mark Boos, Parks & Utilities Supervisor
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd NW,
Ramsey, MN' 55303
763-427-8254
763-434-2094
mboos~ci.ramsey.mn.us
Rarnsey, 3IN, (with regionally significant trai'l connections)

I. PROJECT SUMMARY AND RESULTS:

The Trott Brook Greenway Corr/dor project seeks to protect and promote one of the Metro area's
few remaining natural corridors through land acquisition and providing technical assistance
regarding natural resource management.

II. DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT RESULTS:

The Trott Brook Greenway Corridor provides the missing six (6) mile link in a beautiful and
important 108 mile trail loop that encompasses the northern half of the greater Minneapolis and
Saint Paul Metro area. It also happens to be one of the few remaining contiguous tracts of
natural area in the Metro area that has yet to be protected.

The future stewardship of these ecologically significant areas and the natural corridor that
surrounds them is the focus of this project. Funding this project will ensure that the resources and
support are in place to protect this valuable natural area before it is fragmented beyond repair.

The area within the corridor includes high quality upland and wetland natural community areas.
The diversity and interspersion of these communities and their connection with other potential
and existing corridors increases overall habitat value of each hrea.

This corridor will be of regional significance by linking natural resources from the; Crow-
Hasson Park along the Crow River to the Mississippi, north along Ramsey's Lake Itasca Trail, to
Trott Brook itself. At the northeast edge of this basin is Anoka County's Rum River Central Park
and Cedar Creek. The existing Cedar Greenway is in line with Carlos Avery Wildlife Refuge and
the connection to the existing Willard Munger Trail.

The goals of this project are to:
· Maintain the existing character and natural appearance of the corridor, particularly adjacent
to Trott Brook.
· Maintain and protect the creek's function as a habitat corridor while enhancing water quality.

3/28/02 Page 1 of 4

-55-
