Mr. Littlejohn replied that they are concerned about the humidity not the condensation. <br />stated that they have no problem building within the water tower as long ~ it is on the floor. <br /> <br />City Engineer O{son stated that he has discussed the issue with the desig-ner of the water tower <br />and they are confident that the mezzanine would not collapse. The mezzanine could hold 250 <br />pounds per square foot. <br /> <br />Mr. Littlejohn noted that the equipment is 360 square feet and 26 tons including the walls and air <br />handling units. <br /> <br />Mayor Garner inquired if the reason for the upper mezzanine is so that the City can use the lower <br />level. <br /> <br />Director of Public Works Kapler replied yes. He explained that the City chose the water tower <br />design so that [t could be used for public works storage and the upper level could be used for <br />communication equipment. <br /> <br />City. En~neer O[son stated that the weight is not an issue. <br /> <br />Nix'. Littlejohn replied that his client has a deep concern, because the mezzanine could collapse. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak inquired if Mr. Littlejohn knew of a situation where a mezzanine had <br />collapsed. <br /> <br />Mr: Littlejohn replied that it has never happened to them because they don't allow second floor <br />storage of equipment. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak inquired if staff was confidant that tower could accommodate the weight. <br /> <br />City Engineer Otson replied yes. <br /> <br />Councilmember Kurak inquired if the City would have the proper insurance if the mezzanine <br />were to collapse. <br /> <br />City Attorney Goodrich replied yes. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired if there would be proper space to get the equipment into the tower. <br /> <br />City Engineer Olson replied yes, explaining that there will be a 7'x7' opening with a hoist. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hendr/ksen inquired as to where the City was in terms of awarding the contract <br />l:br the mezzanine. <br /> <br />City Council/Angust 28, 2001 <br /> Page 21 of 36 <br /> <br /> <br />
