Commissioner Rolfe advised that if they do not pave the roads, they would be very dusty.

Chairperson Johns commented she thought they would have. good buffers so it would not
blow into the surrounding residents homes.

Commissioner Olds inquired regarding preventing them from putting prairie grass along
the roadway so this would keep the dirt down and would prevent cars from driving across
the park.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos noted the north plan may have less construction costs.
He stated he tried to contact Mr. Casey to get information on the use of the fields and
numbers of games played and other issues needed to be factored into the plan.

The Commission discussed what they liked about the parking areas in the park.

Commissioner Shryock suggested that they could have a spot to drOp off coolers before
parking and the open area away from the parking and along the trail would be a great
place for small kids to play.

Consensus was they liked the north plan but would like to have more of parking type lots
as opposed to linear parking. They would want to maintahn parking on the west and
throughout and they need to implement parking control use and will need curbs. They
also came to the consensus that they will need a trail system around the linear area of the
park and they liked the potential for expanding in the future.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos explained the playground area could become interactive
for small children.

Commissioner Lehman asked what the amphitheatre would be used for.

Mr. Mastey explained it would be an unprogrammed space where residents could meet.

The Commission discussed different ideas for the open spaces and shelters on the
parkland.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos noted that they have budgeted $215,000 for 2003 for the
park.

ADJOURNMENT

The Park and Recreation Commission work session adjourned at 8:15 p.m.

Park and Recreation Commission Work Session/April 10, 2003
Page 4 of 5
