Mr. Raatikka noted that if the developer would maintain it, they might keep it as a passive park.

Chairperson Johns stated if they do keep the land, it would be nice to have a boardwalk for
access to it.

Commissioner Olds asked if they insist is be park space, would it come off of the park dedication
funds.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos explained they would essentially be buying the piece for about
$36,000.00.

Conunissioner Olds stated his recommendation would be in order to preserve the land and to
keep it natural they should purchase the land.

Commissioner Shryock noted that if nothing were done with it they would still have the land
there.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos asked if the developer or homeowner association kept this,
would they do anything with it.

Mr. Raatikka stated he did not think they would do anything with it.

Commissioner Shryock commented that she thought they should take the land for park dedication
and leave it open.

Chairperson Johns explained she did not think that they would build a house on it so she did not
think they would need to buy it.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos indicated that if the site plan were approved as shown, the
developer would need to leave the land as open space.

Mr. Raatikka stated he did not think the developer would do anything with this except a park.

Commissioner Ostrum explained in a way they have already charged the developer for the trails
by not giving them a credit so he did not have a problem to help him out in some way because
this land is unique and by itself where something could be done. He stated this is an expensive
option but he thought it would be a nice gesture.

Parks/Utilities Supervisor Boos noted he thought the wetland could be trail-able to connect to
Alpine's trails.

Commissioner Olds indicated he wanted to see the land preserved and not built upon

Commissioner Lehman asked with a potential trail, would it connect through the wetland.

Park and Recreation Commission/May 8, 2003
Page 4 of 8
