COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1: 1995 Ramsey Business Expo Recap.

The 1995 Ramsey Business Expo was held on June 3, 1995 in conjunction with Lions Community
Picnic. The event had a large turnout of residents; however, the number of booths was down from
past years. There were a total of 17 booths this year, including the City of Ramsey. A post-Expo
survey was distributed at the end of the event and from those returned. Most participants were
happy with the event and most suggestions were for minor changes, such as beginning at 2:00
instead of 1:00 p.m. or to increase the amount of advertising. All participants have been mailed a
thank you card for their participation. Based upon input from the survey, the EDC should plan on
conducting the 1996 Expo in conjunction with the Lions Community Picnic again. For next year,
the EDC should strive for more coordination and communication between the two groups in
planning the event.

Commissioner Nelson said that she had some pictures from the Expo of the tent and booths set-up
and that perhaps we may wish to incorporate them into our flyer for 1996 to foster business
interests.

Commissioner Kent suggested sending a letter to the businesses regarding the 1996 Expo
encouraging people to rent a booth and participate in advance planning. A mailing list will be
provided that includes door prize entrants and businesses. Most of the Commission members had
positive things to say about the tent used for the Expo. A greater turnout is expected in 1996 when
more promotion time is available.

Mr. Gromberg informed the EDC that, as the bills come in, he will be forwarding them to the
Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce. Based upon the limited number of booths rented out this
year, the amount of seed money returned to City Council will probably be less than in past years,
especially considering that the tent alone cost approximately $1,600 to rent. This check can be
presented to City Council after all the bills are paid and a balance is struck.

Case #2: 1995 Business Appreciation Day.

The 1995 Business Appreciation Day has been scheduled for August 23, 1995, at the Rum River
Hills golf course. Enclosed with your packet of the proposed flyer for this year's event. The
flyers are scheduled to be mailed the week of June 19, 1995, with the intention of making follow-
up calls by EDC members the last two weeks of July to encourage participation by either
attendance or door prize donation. At this point, the primary tasks remaining are to acquire door
prizes. In 1994, the EDC donated two over-sized drivers that were raffled off. Chairperson
Wagner has reviewed the availability of these items and will report to us.

Chairperson Wagner stated that the type of over-sized driver donated in 1994 at a cost of $39.99
are no longer available. There are others available this year for $59.99. Chairperson Wagner
suggested that if everyone contributes $10 to $15, the EDC could purchase one over-size driver, a
couple of umbrellas, and a variety of smaller prizes. This will be in addition to prizes donated by
local businesses. These will be purchased from the Pro Shop with the $4 credit per golfer that the
event will receive.

This was agreed upon by consensus of the Commissioners.

At the April meeting of the Economic Development Commission, it was the consensus of those
present to elect Mr. Wesley Bulen to the Hall of Fame for 1995. This plaque has been ordered. If
the EDC elects another individual, there is still time to change the name on the plaque.

Economic Development Commission/June 8, 1995
Page 2 of 4
