Mr. Schroeder inquired about the number of training hours to which Chief Kapler felt it <br />would be at least 40 hours of training. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder inquired if there is general liability coverage to which Chief Kapler stated he <br />was assured there was coverage but that he would check again to make certain. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder stated that the information provided says that the State may supply the team <br />with a broad assortment of equipment and supplies. <br /> <br />Chief Kapler stated that he thought the Fridley Fire Department already has the equipment <br />and added that the $40,000 the program would receive annually also covers the training. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder inquired if Ramsey's contribution will consistently be for two or three <br />people or will there be more as more show interest. <br /> <br />Chief Kapler suggested it will always be for two or three people. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder inquired what if 15 people show interest. <br /> <br />Chief Kapler stated that they would have to conduct a screening process. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder inquired about alternating so that every year a couple more people get the <br />training. <br /> <br />Chief Kapler stated he would be okay with that if the Fire Fighters are. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder inquired if other cities have participated in this training. <br /> <br />Chief Kapler replied yes, but he wasn't sure which ones. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder stated he would be interested in which cities are in and their degree of <br />inclusion. <br /> <br />Chief Kapler agreed to furnish that information. He added that what he is looking for right <br />now is to let the Fridley Fire Chief know that Ramsey is interested. <br /> <br />Motion by Mayor Hardin and seconded by Boardmember Weiss to recommend Council <br />approve two to three Ramsey Fire Fighters join the Hazardous Materials Response Team as <br />Technicians or Specialists. <br /> <br />Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Councilmember Beyer, Boardmembers <br />Weiss, Pearson and Wilson. Voting No: None. Absent: Boardmember McLaughlin. <br /> <br />Case #4: Alcohol/Drug Policy for Fire Fighters <br /> <br />Fire Chief Kapler disseminated a draft alcohol/drug policy for the Fire Board to review. <br />He invited the Boardmembers to review, cut, add, comment, etc. He stated that the <br />Ramsey Fire Department does not have a problem with this issue but he felt a policy should <br />be in place in case this should happen. He inquired if the City has an alcohol/drug policy <br />for its employees. <br /> <br />Boardmember Williams stated he met with Administrative Services McAloney and she <br />couldn't fred anything about an alcohol policy. <br /> <br /> Fire Board/February 8, 1995 <br /> Page 3 of 6 <br /> <br /> <br />
