ROAD AND BRIDGE COMMITTEE
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey Road and Bridge Committee conducted a regular meeting on Tuesday, August
8, 1995, at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard N.W., Ramsey,
Minnesota.

Members Present:

Councilmember Carolyn Beahen
Councilmember Gerald Zimmerman

Also Present:

City Administrator Ryan Schroeder
City Engineer Steve Jankowski
Public Works Supervisor Merle Mevissen

CALL TO ORDER

Councilmember Zimmerman called the regular meeting of the Road and Bridge Committee
to order at 6:05 p.m.

CITIZEN INPUT

None

COMMITTEE BUSINESS

Case #1: Status Report on Sunwood Drive Project

City Engineer Jankowski provided the Road and Bridge Committee with an update on the
status of the design and construction of Sunwood Drive from Wood Pond Hills to County
Road #57. The design of the bridge crossing Wetland #114P is expected to be completed
within the next two to three weeks. City Staff has been in contact with Tom and Patty
Kurak, the property owners, through whose land approximately 1800 feet of the roadway
will traverse. Mr. Jankowski presented the alignment last approved by the City Council.
During the meeting with the Kurak's, they expressed a concern over the roadway that
traverses their property. We felt it was a good idea to push it north to the highway then
through the two wetlands. Subsequent to that, Mr. Schroeder spoke with Mr. Kurak and
he (Kurak) wanted the line to parallel the roadway and go between the two designated
wetlands. Mr. Jankowski showed the alignments. He explained that he felt that this latest
alignment request was objectionable because of too many tight curves. We feel we should
utilize the previously agreed to alignment. He commented that it's possible Mr. Kurak
hasn't even seen how the alignment looks that he is suggesting. He stated that the City is
anxious to finalize the alignment through the Kurak's property at this time as it will have an
impact on the final property which this roadway will need to traverse, the Ben Deemer
property.

Councilmember Zimmerman agreed with the alignment shifting the roadway approximately
100 feet north - and not the last one suggested by Mr. Kurak. He expressed a concern
about the tight curves for the fire tanker and also that the curves would destroy the character
of an MSA road.

Councilmember Beahen questioned how opposeed Tom and Patty Kurak would be to this
alignment.

Road and Bridge Committee/August 8, 1995
Page I of 3
