COMMISSION BUSINESS

Case #1: 1994 Business Appreciation Day

Economic Development Coordinator Gromberg stated that at the last meeting, the Commission
requested bids from both of the local golf courses for the 1994 Business Appreciation Day. Mr.
Gromberg submitted to the Commission a memorandum outlining a comparison of the bids
received, and. he advised that after reviewing these bids, it is Staffs recommendation to enter into
an agreement to have this year's event held at The Links at Northfork. He explained that their bid
of $50.00 per golfer is similar to the bid of $44.50 received from Rum River Hills Golf Course,
and allows the Commission to initiate a policy of alternating the event between the two courses.

Commissioner Stafki suggested that in the future the Commission may want to work out an
arrangement with both courses, setting the price and alternating the site of the event.

Mr. Gromberg expressed interest in achieving such an arrangement but cited his concern over
getting scalped by one or the other course when it is their year to host the event.

Commissioner Ulien was in favor of changing the event to a half day instead of the traditional all-
day event as this will allow for more people to participate.

Commissioner Kent recommended contacting interested parties now to allow time for making
necessary schedule adjustments so that they can attend.

Motion by Commissioner Ullen and seconded by Commissioner Stafki to conduct the 1994
Business Appreciation Day at The Links at Northfork.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Wagner, Commissioners Ullen, Stafki, and Kent.
Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioner Nelson.

Case g2: 1993 Business Hall of Fame Inductee

Economic Development Coordinator Gromberg stated the Commission needs to decide upon
inductees to the Business Hall of Fame. Mr. Gmmberg specified the criteria for eligibility in order
for the Commission to base their recommendation. He also suggested considering two inductees
again this year to get the year of induction matching the year of the Expo.

Chairperson Wagner nominated the following as possible candidates: Gary Reimann, Nils
Sundquist, Bob Brown, Bernie Vevea, and A1 Phillips.

Mr. Gromberg also suggested the Commission consider Harold Stoez and Wes Bullen.

Commissioner Stafld suggested considering Gerald Bauer.

The Economic Development Commission discussed the merits of each candidate and the business
and/or groups with which they are associated.

Motion by Chairperson Wagner and seconded by Commissioner Stafki to induct Nils Sundquist to
the Business Hall of Fame for 1993 and A1 Phillips to the the Business Hall of Fame for 1994.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Wagner, Commissioners Stafki, Kent, and Ullen.
Voting No: None, Absent: Commissioner Nelson.

Economic Development Commission/April 7, 1994
Page 2 of 3
