He added <br />that the name Solstice bears recognition to the "sunny" in Sunny Ponds. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Hardin and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman to <br />recommend the City Council approve the Park Plan and corresponding budget. <br /> <br />Motion carded. Voting Yes: Councilmembers Hardin, Zimmerman, Beyer and Peterson. <br />Voting No: None. Absent: Mayor Gilbertson <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Hardin and seconded by Councilmember Peterson to <br />recommend that City Council officially adopt the name "Solstice Park" for the Prairie Park <br />District neighborhood park. <br /> <br />Further discussion: Councilmember Zimmerman stated that naming the park Solstice Park <br />would be changing the park naming policy. Councilmember Peterson repeated the park <br />naming policy for Councilmember Zimmerman. City Administrator Schroeder stated that <br />the residents really liked the name Solstice. Councilmember Beyer felt this name would be <br />contrary to the park naming policy adopted by Council in 1991. Mr. Schroeder repeated <br />the park naming policy for Councilmember Beyer. Councilmember Beyer reiterated that <br />this name would still be contrary to what Council stated as policy back in 1991. Mr. <br />Schroeder offered to locate the written policy and bring it back for discussion at the next <br />meeting. <br /> <br />Motion failed: Voting Yes: Councilmembers Hardin and Peterson. Voting No: <br />Councilmembers Beyer and Zimmerman. <br /> <br />Mayor Gilbertson arrived - 6:15 p.m. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE INPUT <br /> <br />Councilmember Zimmerman inquired about the planting (Highway #10 Beautification <br />Project) on Saturday, May 21, 1994, to which Mr. Boos replied that it went very well, and <br />summarized the amount and species of plants planted. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hardin expressed concern about the inadequate amount of parking space at <br />Central Park and also the fact that there are not bleachers by the ball fields. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos stated that the bleachers are not proposed to be a budget request for the next <br />couple of years. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hardin felt that this decision should be reassessed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Beyer stated that the parents can bring their own chairs; bleachers are not <br />necessary. <br /> <br />Councilmember Hardin stated he is more concerned with the inadequate parking space. <br /> <br />Mayor Gilbertson stated that there will be a 37-acre parcel adjacent to Central Park that will <br />be available soon. <br /> <br />Mr. Boos stated that the cable where the wood chips are stored could be taken down to <br />handle some of the overflow parking and/or the buckshot could be moved to make more <br />space available.
